Just checking in for the coast of N. Cal
I've been fortunate enough to have fly fished & tied flies since the mid 60's. I moved back to the north bay of San Francisco 20+ yrs ago and now have pulled out my gear that I used for 14 yrs in Montana and Wyoming. I just picked up a good set of new waders and am hoping for more runoff in our coastal rivers. Steal head fishing is what I'm looking for but looks like I'll be waiting for the streams to swell up. Just the same, during the first week of February our family will be staying for 5 days at Sea Ranch. Not sure that i'll wet a line, but I'll be sure to get back on a few of the roads that follow this drainage. I'd think a drift boat would be the way to really find fish, but I lift all the drift boats back in the rockies. Anyone have any suggestions of where to drive? Maybe there are trout on this drainage as well? Thanks in advance.n. dirk miller

Hi Dirk, Welcome to the Forum. The only place I know of in your area that is consistently productive is the Russian River. It usually has a good winter run of steelies and has resident trout and small mouth bass. (Be sure to check the regulations at CA Fish&Game on-line site). There are several guides that run drift boats on the river that you can find on-line. If you want to fish from shore try the beach in Guerneville. There is also a good shad run on the river around May or June. They fight like fresh water tarpon especially fun on a 4 wt.
Good luck and tight lines!

I hope you do bring some rain with you :)
King Sport and Tackle, Guerneville , and Outdoor Pro Shop, Cotati, are I think, the two
best sources of fresh water fishing information in our area.
Keep us posted.
Gary
Thanks. i'll be sure to check in on these two shops
