LA/SanDiego and Bay Area traffic are some of the worst in the world, I would agree. And there are far too many people living here. But get away from those metropolitan areas and this state is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Texas is a big state and I've only seen a small portion of it. Unfortunately I missed the good parts I'm sure. You don't have to fly fish to fish in California. Our coastline is over twice as many miles as Texas', being topped only by Alaska and Florida.
Pioneer Fishing License in Oregon was free I think its 5 bux now. If you lived in Oregon 50 years and your 65 you qualify. The rest of us pay about 60-80. 250 for sportpack

Spirit, Thank you, even if you were speaking with tongue in cheek! Either way, you were only viewing maybe 1/5 of this enormous state. If you had driven from Amarillo to Brownsville, you might have had a different opinion, or say, Beaumont to El Paso. And from Beaumont to Texarkana you might think you were in northern CA!
But don't worry, i personally will not trespass into your state. I've been there many times, both in the Air Force and working. I even have a number of relatives who live in CA.
I loved the weather and tempreature, hated the traffic--I can experience those horrendous traffic jams right here at home. Since I don't fly fish nor intend to begin fly fishing, I think you can be confident of being safe from my intrusion. Just Sayin...RJS

Truly one of my great joys in life is teasing Texans about their State. You'all are so SENSITIVE! LMAO. In my book, if you whopper size every story and sprinkle in a little braggadocio you damn well better be prepared for some good natured smack talk. Truth of it is, I'd move to Texas so fast I wouldn't bother to pack. But, my family is here so it's where I'll stay. Sorry I strummed a sour chord with you Robert. Wasn't my intent. I'm an avid reader of your stories, a big fan.
I am well aware of our obvious flaws. I am as guilty as guilty as the worst of us! Thanks for the compliment to the state we certainly have enough flaws. Just Sayin...RJS
Over 65 IN. Live time free, but Michigan gets in my pocket to salmon fish. Its worth it!!
In my humble opinion, it is the people that make a state or country what it is. In my life, I have had the opportunity to travel to many. All states have their own particular beauty and worth seeing. But if the people are not friendly and fun, then that state falls down the list.
Example: Many years ago (about 40), my wife and I went to the Carribean and stayed at a Club Med. It was a blend of people from all around the world. By the end of the week, most of the Californians and Texans banned together to fight off the New Yorkers for somewhat obvious reasons.
Nicest people in the U.S., Washington State
Nicest piople in the world, Austrailians (also most fun)
P.S. Fishing license prices in Cal suck! But hey, we can fish year around in the ocean or lakes and streams.
OldB... lived in WA for two years and elk hunted there for many years. Can't even count how many times a resident would see my CA plates and give me a hard time. Eventually the ice would thaw, beers would appear and time after time the resident would finally say "I moved here from Cali (insert a wide range of numbers here) years ago." Those darn Cali transplants love to hassle anyone from Cali.

350 miles of coastline BUT how many lakes? how many are man made? how bout that one
in east tx thats full o lunkers? I bet ol RJ knows the answers [without aid of the net]
My favorite hobby is too sit in traffic on the 405 at the I-10 interchange. Whatever the cost to wet your line, it's all worth it.
When push comes to shove.........does it really matter where you catch that PB?

I have just verified that a Resident Senior citizen's all waters fishing license is $22.00. How does that compare with your state's exorbitant fees, Spirit? Just Sayin..RJS
Lynny wants to move to Alabama to be close to the kids. Here is the one reason I would consider it:
*Alabama Residents 65 years of age and over are exempt from purchasing the following licenses:
Hunting
Freshwater Fishing
Saltwater Fishing
State Duck Stamp
Wildlife Management Area
*See the Who is Exempt from Purchasing Recreational Licenses page for more information.
Must have Alabama driver's license or proof of permanent residence and age. (Does not include non-resident landowners).
Just saying.
65 and over is FREE in Florida!
Spirit: Yes, and just how much of that coastline of CA is absolutely off limits for fishing due to being shear cliffs hundreds of feet high, and the coast only accessable by a sizeable boat. When you consider the miles of Texas Bays, it measures up into the thousands of miles.Just Sayin...RJS
Here in Florida, over 65, disabled veterans, active military or anyone with a 100% disability gets to fish for free.

Yep, priced according to value offered. Texas has 350 miles of Gulf Coast and how many of your states can be placed inside Texas? Just Sayin...RJS
Well Mr. Samples, I’m from Alaska but retired in Costa Rica. No fee for fishing, hunting or trapping once you turn 60. I’m pretty sure you can put most of the US in Alaska. Just saying!
