Thanks, I wonder where the word fathom came from. To me it would be so much easier just to do it in feet. So your are 23 fathom now you have to do 6 times 23. But what do I know

If you are an old time sea fairer, you do not do a conversion. You just know the depth in fathoms as natural as in feet. 6 fathoms is 6 fathoms, just as 36 feet is 36 feet as 9 meters is a 9 meters regardless of who reads it and needs to convert it to something they are used to. Most Europeans have to convert feet to centimeters and meters to get a perspective of the length. The United States does the opposite. It is truly dumb. But everyone seems to think the other guy should change to their method in spite of the metric system being the simplest to learn and use on a level playing field. So once again pride and arrogance wins out over common sense. It is even more foolish than the arguments between which is better, spinning or bait casting reels. They are just different ways to reach the same end.

Yes that would make sense. Oh everyone knows spinning reels are the best.

Excuse my ignorance, but what does that have to do with a 10 based vs. 12 based numerical system? Most of our leading space scientist had to work with both to get men on the moon. They could have spent more time on space travel research if they could have spent less time on math conversions. Just saying! My comment was not a political statement, but a simple a numerical system opinion I came to taking both biological and statically analysis classes in grad school.

No worries. I just have a tendency to pre qualify these days as I seem to constantly get challenged as to what I base my comments on. I find my self doing the same these days, as talking from the wrong part of ones body seems to be the norm. I guess your right. No one cares.
