Those are (Bugs) Bunny boots. The black ones are Mickey Mouse boots.

Hmmm! Learn something new everyday. Never heard of Bugs Bunny boots. We got jungle boots.

Not true. We were issued these when we went through NWTC (Northern Warfare Training Center) in Alaska. The opens to fill the air space between the interior and exterior of the boot. After 10 minutes close the valve. Known as Mickey Mouse Boots, we used them for ski training as well. We did tailgate jumps from Chinook helicopters but the valve has absolutely nothing to do with support.

No. We were all advised to open the valve while the aircraft was flying to prevent the boots from tightening. When we received the command to ‘stand up ‘ we immediately tightened the valves.
