Fishing boca in early January and I have two beginners in the boat with me they want to catch something so badly does anyone have any suggestions I've tarpon fished in boca and thats it! Any tips would be appreciated.

You could try going offshore (I forget how far); you'll have to ✓ your USGS Chart, for bottom "structure", that we used to call "the tabletops"... There's a handful of submerged "plateaus" there, near Boca Grande, as I recall. We used to set out temporary bouys/ flashing lights, to drag shrimp trawls on top of those rascals, in the early 1980's... I'm guessing that the sides of those "underwater buttes", or, whatever you wanna call'em; or even on top of them, or NEAR them, in the deeper water, all would be worth a try.
White paddle tails , frozen or live shrimp. Chunk mullet, lizard fish or lady fish for bait. Use popper cork with 18 inch 20 lb leader. Fish flats with pot holes between 19th street and hogan key. Trout , reds , flounder , snook. Snook C and R until
