Soup. Hot Chocolate/ Coffee. Whatever helps.
A buddy of mine and I floated the Skykomish River for December steelhead and the best thing about that day, aside from the scenery, was the hot progresso soup in the thermos...

Preheat your thermos. Put very hot water in it before coffee or soup. If its preheated it should keep coffee or soup hot longer than when you fill it stone cold.
I usually dress for the weather. Snacks or Subway is handy if not going at O DARK 30. When hunting in cold time of year we usually take a little propane stove or even BBQ. Then heat up Corn beef hash and Over medium eggs in the field on tailgate of truck. A real good one in 19 Elk Season was the Pancake wrapped Sausage. Look like Corndogs but they are breakfast. Wrap in foil ahead of time then just heat them up on little Propane BBQ. Dress for weather. Sturgeon in dead of winter is good in Oregon. Quota restarts Jan 1. We usually had a fire behind rods that (bait) were out in Columbia 60 or more yards. Just stay warm waiting for a bite. Be careful in woods. Yu can easily end up with Poison Oak in the fire and the results are very bad news if you breath the smoke of Poison Oak or ivy. It comes out in your whole system to skin surface including EVERYWHERE. You don't want it.

To the people who fish all year round and not just in Montana during summer once a year, what’s the best go to soup to bring on an outing? Normally I just eat a cold sando or cold fried chicken and a cold coffee for lunch but thinking of bringing a thermos this coming winter season. Thanks!

We kayaked the sky komish in the spring. Still patches of snow around.
Very nice was a sandbar lunch with hot apple juice heated on a driftwood fire.
Absolutely beautiful stretch of river

Typical for fishing is a thermos of hot coffee. And Lance crackers with the white cheese or peanut butter crackers and maybe sone Vienna sausages.
Interestinlly enough, fishing is the only time I eat either of these.

I fish from a boat so a camp stove Probly not a good idea

Quick energy boost is very welcome

In a thermos, anything that doesn't have big chunks that get stuck trying to eat it. Actually easier with a single burner propane stove and a can if you have a vehicle with you. Always carry a couple of cans of Progresso chickarina sou and some cans of beans. If you get desperate you can heat them on the exhaust manifold.

Always took a large thermos filled with hot beef broth with a bit of Vodka thrown in, it does well getting rid of the chill from inactivity, sitting on a pail watching your bobber ! Sounds gross but pretty smooth if you don't overdue it with the Vodka .

When I ran my charter boat I had a regular customer who was a sturgeon fanatic. For those who don't know California that means winter fishing. This fellow would always bring a hot lunch for the whole boat. (6 pack boat, 6 customers and 1 captain) This gentleman was originally from Montreal. My favorite dish he brought he called "Canadian beans" and boy was it good. He had a mixture of beans and rabbit! He found a butcher shop in Marin County that sold whole cleaned rabbits. Along with bacon. some brown sugar and authentic Canadian maple syrup and this dish was great. He had a crock pot in a warmer that kept it all hot. Now that was a fishing lunch!!!

I spent 20 doing construction staking for land surveyors in a previous life. We worked year round except when there was 5 inches of snow or more. I figured out very early that a stainless steel thermos of soup and an even larger one of coffee were essential to my survival. I have always eaten a lot of homemade soups at home so there were always left overs in the freezer. Fill the thermos with hot water and let it sit while the soup heated up in the microwave; get it good and hot; pour out the water and fill it with hot soup. It would still be plenty hot 6 hours later at lunch time. Now I do the same thing but take it fishing instead of to work!

I'm partial to mushroom soup & cream of tomato when I'm in my deer stand. The marina I fish out of most of the winter has a grill that makes great burgers & a few other tasty items plus keeps plenty of hot coffee. There's nothing like a good hot drink when a man is shivering from the cold. Tight lines.
