Welcome Hogwaller, I love to fish Toledo bend
Welcome Mr hogwaller. I've lost some nice deep diver lures in lake fork. Lot of timber down there. Tight lines.
I’ve lost more deep divers than Walmart carries on display lol.
So do you know the difference between a hill coon and a bottom coon?
I've had to go to the Texas hill country & help load an 18 wheeler with cedar fence post 2 or 3 times. A hard days work. I did see a rattler or two but no coons. You've got me this time. The coon I'm named after was a crippled up old coon that the other coons picked on something fierce. I still go to Fork but fish almost exclusively for crappie. I think the best bass fishing at Fork is at night & at my age I enjoy a good night's sleep. Tight lines.
Back when I used to trap as a young fella before the bottom fell outta the market a hill coon was what one was called that had a reddish patch of fur between its shoulders and on the back of the neck. A bottom coon had a dark coat all the way up its back.
This coon ain't worth 3 cents cause he was born with a hairless back & backside. There's a little chest hair trying to grow out as i get older. Chest hair never had a chance when I was younger as I kept it rubbed off.

Welcome to the forum Hogwaller with a name like that you should be from Iowa or Nebraska
Thanks! Never been to either
Thanks! I fish Rayburn way more than Toledo but my favorite lake is a little jewel named Naconiche only about 15 minutes from my house.
Hogwaller, see where you captain for a high school team.’Do you by chance fish THSBA (Texas High School Bass Assn.) tournaments. A mighty fine and worthwhile organization. Great for the kids who not only fish for prizes but also for scholarship money. Two of my boys are directors in 3 different divisions, one of which I believe would be close to you.
If you do then you know what I’m talking about. If not,
message me back and I will give you a contact number or of course you can look it up on line. Good luck
No sir. I captained in the Deep East Texas high school series on Sam Rayburn for three years and Ultimate High School series last year until Covid hit. I got a deal cut to start captaining for deep east Texas again starting in January. I’ve thought about starting another trail for kids. There’s so many that would like to fish but don’t have a captain. I’ve pondered the idea of a kayak series, maybe require one of the parents to accompany the kid class de by in another kayak. I know I want to do more for them.
We had seven teams competing four years ago from our high school bass club and last had only one due to the lack of captains. That’s why I’ve been chewing on the kayak idea. Lots of kids folks can’t afford a boat but a couple cheaper sit on top kayaks wouldn’t be out of the question.
I’m looking forward to taking my grandson when he’s old enough. Problem with the lack of captains arrives from their own kids not being involved and being reluctant to commit. As our captains kids graduated so did the captains.
