Cold morning
30 degree temp drop from cold front. Wind howling
Got out on lake and discovered my trolling remote batteries were dead and cloud cover blocked satilite link
Found crappie in 42 ft. Big thick schools.
Caught a few. Nothing to write home about. Bites were extremely light.
Normally don’t take picture unless it’s worth a picture, but I know pictures are popular here.
Good job. You are one brave fisherman going out in a cold norther, to fish for crappie. Just Sayin...RJS

Well, Crappie are right good eatin'... Glad for ya, Ben!
Y, Mr. Samples; we used to ¡Chop holes in the ice! (used a "spud-bar" &/or "auger", for that), just to catch bluegills and "kibbies", up in MA.
Checked batteries on trolling motor remote.
2 AAA One was dead . Other at half
Factory batteries.
I spent more time dicking around with the wireless foot pedal than I did fishing
Remote works very well. Responsiveness Of remote is spot on . Foot pedal is a PITA
Clouds had satalite blocked. Couldn’t spot lock and like I said , the bite was as light as I’ve ever experienced.
Even with GLX it was barely perceptible.
Well I knew it would be tough. It was
Duck hunters out today.
I think that would be fun

At least you were fishing, and you caught fish, it isn't all bad.

I left my "Bird gun" @ a "Buddy's" house, about 12 years ago... When I went to retrieve it, he tried to hand me a different gun (¡¡¡1 that I HAD GIFTED TO HIM!!!) ... Still ain't got that sorted out, but, it's moving higher up on my: "¿What's the most important next right thing, for me to be DOING?" list.
Yea I hear ya.
Gave my brother a couple rod and reel combos I “ retired” . Because I wanted him to have better gear. They were nice outfits . Discovered he sold them.
Kinda disappointed.
Same with a motorguide Trolling motor.
If I wanted em sold , I would have sold them myself
I love fishing for crappie did you use minnows in that cold water?
Ben, those Energizer lithiums are a little spendy, but worth it when out on the water.. not sure what you have going on with your spot lock??? It should still lock on in cloud cover. I've fished in heavy cloud cover, heavy snow storms rain and deep canyons and have never not been able to lock on spot. I would get with manufacturer and see what's up with that. I have a Minn Kota Ullterra. They use the same satellites for function.
When we go to lake fork texas crappie fishing in March or April we tie off under the bridges & fish. My fishing buddy has the motor guide system & it goes blank when we get under a bridge & we have experienced the same cloud cover problems that Ben spoke of. I'm definitely not knocking the motor guide products I'm saying I know exactly what Ben is talking about. When the main motor won't start anything that will keep me from paddling is wonderful. Good luck, Ben.
