20 pound braid and 17 pound vanish for a leader - I bet it don't do it no more. And to make sure your bail isn't closing up on you (if you're using a spinning reel) remove it. You really don't need it. It's just one more thing that can go wrong on your casts.

Surf fishing I use minimum, 30 pound braid, Most have 50 pound braidI do use a weak link of 20 on just the sinker so I don't lose the whole rig.

A rule of thumb = ten pound test per 1 oz. Terminal tackle, include bait/lure. Think poorly tied knots and old line also.

I grew up fishing the Atlantic/Gulf Stream / Va. Beach and Blues when they were far more Plentiful. Salt water fishing is a whole different Game. King Salmon in the Great Lakes is about as close as it gets.

I made one last year just to see and it works real well, just need to practice a little bit and get used to it. It's going to the coast with me this week and I posted a picture of my granddaughter fishing with it on another post just today. Look for Not me's post "greatest day fishing".

I keep having my line snap on me when casting. I’m using 8lb mono and lucky craft 110s that weigh 5/8 oz.

Also happens with a Carolina rig with a 1oz egg sinker.

I just go to cast and hear a pop and watch my $20 lure go flying into the ocean (surf fishing).

It happens every other time I go fishing. Definitely not the knot coming undone.

I have swapped out my line for a higher end 8lb mono - still happening.

This happens on 2 different rods with 2 different reels. 1 of the rods and reels are brand new so no issues with the guides (also I checked them)

I do tend to bring up seaweed and eel grass on pretty much every cast. Is it possible that my line is just getting damaged and then snaps???

Are you stopping your cast in mid hair often? That can but stress on the knots as well.

Min. 30 lb braid and 20 lb flourocarbon leader. Most likely your line is contacting rocks and shells and 8 lb mono just ain’t going to hold up. Flouro is much more abrasion resistant. And remember, there are some BIG fish in that salt water.

I've not yet stopped MINE "in mid hair"; but, I DID snag my brother ¡IN THE NECK!; on the backswing/ a trebble hook, up in Canada one year, when we were both kids!

tie on a piece of heavy braid long enough for your tackle, the length of the rod and enough more to make 3 or 4 wraps around your reel helped for me get the same distance on the cast and the fish do not seem to mind

All good suggestions, Q-tip, reconsidering line/leader lb test and rod stiffness. You see to get the most casting distance, you need to have a rod that will flex some, because on the cast as your rod travels forward on the start of the cast it will flex in the opposite direction then half way through your cast the tip of your rod starts to catch up with your forward motion and giving extra velocity hence distance. That tip flexing when you start your cast stops the sharp jerk that is breaking your line. it is the same principle as matching a fly line with a fly rod so that the rod is properly loaded for max distance.
