Good point, Jer...but, I couldn't list 'em all.

Thus why i didn't bring up any more then Gomer's show. I know how much you enjoyed that one. Probably why you joined the Marines. Glad you did though and straighten out that bunch of reject sailors.

Do you all remember your first color TV show?

Mine was Wizard of Oz.

Does anyone else remember the console radio with the green cat-eye tuning?

My memories are quite similar...but, I can't recall our having any console with a green cat-eye tuning.

Maybe my memory is failing me in some respects.

How about Red Skelton and Jackie Gleason with Art Carney. Of course in my younger days my Grandmother wouldn't allow me to watch the Jackie Gleason show because she didn't think I should watch the June Taylor Dancers. These guys could leave you in stitches without a single ugly word. True comedians.

Indeed they were. I just recently again watched Art Carney's Oscar-winning dramatic performance in 'Harry & Tonto'.

And even though I was young the beauty of the June Taylor Dancers wasn't wasted on me. I can't remember the name of the man responsible for the creative camera angles used during the show. And remember, these shows were live as best as I can remember. And the cigarette commercials.

Freddie the Freeloader was my favorite but all his characters were equally funny. A clean funny without resorting to vulgar language to get a laugh.

When did you bring up "Gomer's show" Heck, that debuted 10-12 years after I started watching TV.

Not sure, but I believe 'Ol' Yeller' might'a been the first TV movie I saw in color, on The Walt Disney Show.

When color TV first hit the market, my Grand Dad knew a fella who owned a furniture store. He let us go in on Sunday January 1st to watch the Rose Parade in color on a set that the store had for sale. It was a private viewing (Remember when stores were closed on Sunday?) but the picture quality was poor and we all pretty much agreed that we'd wait a couple of years for the color TV's to get better before we'd think about buying one.

It seems that the only thing not open these days is the car lots.
