It's a lot easier to help you if we know a little more about you. Where you are, what kind of water are you fishing.....
Hey, I'm also new to the forum. I live in Bullard, TX, just south of Tyler and right by Lake Palestine. I fish mainly on Lake Palestine. I prefer to fish for catfish because I'm lazy and like bait fishing (can't stand the constant casting and reeling due to arthritis) and we like eating catfish. I use chicken coated with strawberry jello powder and garlic and let to sit for a couple of days. I also use punch bait and large nightcrawlers. I don't go for really big ones, as I probably wouldn't be able to pull them out, as I'm an old woman, plus I don't like to eat the big ones. Wallmart sells a fishing map that has good spots marked according to the fish you are after. I usually fish way north in the Kickapoo Creek area or all the way down by the dam. Under the main bridge can also be good. Anyway good luck and tight lines.

Welcome and I wish you good luck in your fishing.
HotKat: Welcome, Lady. Sounds like you are an expereinced fisherperson. I began my fishing life fishing in the Red River in N. Texas and we fished for both catfish and in the spring for sand bass.
I think you will find a lot of good advice and sage suggestions on this forum, but also a lot of jokester and bull shippers. Just Sayin....RJS
Good tips are great, but nothing beats OJT...'on the job training.' Practice, practice...practice
Learning how to correctly tie various knots set me free. There's nothing more embarrassing than making a cast a watching your favorite luer go flying off into the distance.

What ever lives near San Antonio, Texas.
I’d like recommendations of where and what types of fishing are near the South side of San Antonio.
Please suggest gear, bait, boat rentals and perhaps fishermen who would like a fishing buddy. I can pay my way and will respond to opportunities.
Thank you, Terry
I have written several books about freshwater fishing so you might want to take a look at

Welcome new guy. First lesson. It is called fishing, not catching. If it was catching it would be too much work and no time for beer and smokes. A lot to learn here. Just ask away and give us a clue where you are and what you are fishing for.
If your doing catching, give it up. Fishing is for peace of mind. Enjoying the outdoors and maybe bring home a fish.fishing is a relaxing therapy.fish is a bonus. I hope you find fish ,by I not , enjoy the experience. I just got back from a 4 day fishing trip with only one fish. But the relaxation and peace was great.no one caught fish, I managed one. Not disappointed. Best advice let the fish feel your not there to catch them , then maybe you'll will. Tight lines.

Hello Terry J: Take a look at my post about Texas Game and Fish Commission App. It will give you a computer connection to find fishing spots any where in the state. Just Sayin...RJS

www.booksbyjake.comHi Jake,
I can't wait for the book Fishing Different. I live in Arizona retired and am surrounded by lakes. My wife and I just bought 2 fishing kayaks and want to enjoy our life after working for 50+ years. We are newbies and are excited to start fishing.
Thank you,
