New fisherman looking for tips!
Looking to take up the art of catching fish. I know some of the basics but am kinda looking for tips more related to personal experience and little quality of life things you might not be able to find on the internet and most people wouldn't know about. Thanks to anyone to shares!

What type of fishing you planning on doing?

So far river fishing with pickerel rigs and spoons

Don’t know to much about that but don’t get frustrated fishing, anyday fishing is a good day of fishing. Also sometimes live bait is the best bait, especially with river fishing for catfish.

Yeah so far I'm using salted minnows or worms, haven't caught anything as of yet but just being out on the water was beautiful and worth it. Thanks for your input!

No problem but if you got bass around you I highly recommend getting into bass fishing, there pretty aggressive and love lures. Best of luck to you man!

Try looking up local fishing reports, or talking to people at tackle stores etc about the current fishing. You can get great tips of them on what the fish are after and how to get them.

Don’t be afraid to talk to other people you see fishing or at tackle shops.
Don’t try to invent your own techniques, there are ways that work very well that are well known.
Understand that sometimes it is faster to cut and retie than to untangle. Faster is better if the fish are biting.
If you can make friends who’ll take you under their wing and show you the ropes, you’ll learn way faster.

Welcome to the Forum, Im_Keenu, a couple of things, first put your location on your profile page above. Just your city & state will be fine. Then people will be more willing to help you out and you will receive more replies. Also, people will know where you are at and maybe there is a Forum member also living in that city that will help you out. If it is a big city close to water, they may have a local fishing forum that yopu could join and find out information. Good Luck!

Welcome from NJ Im_Keenu, you can get a lot of information from u tube, there you can find information on techniques, lures and how to fish for different types of fish, give it a try
Try to find some productive spots
First indicator of a hot spot is presence of other fishermen.
Sand or gravel bars, wing dams any type of current break.
Watch what other fishermen are doing.
For the most part anyone who is fishing there knows what’s going on
Invest in some jig heads and different colored twist tail grubs. 1/4 to 3/8 oz is good size to start .
These are pretty consistent producers in rivers and aren’t terribly expensive when you get hung up and lose one. You will get hung up. Don’t let this discourage you. Happens
Good luck. Fishing can be a lifetime passion
Hey Keenu, you'll get alot more answers and help if you put your name or nickname up at the top where it says FS Digest. Alot of people just skip over that. And a location also increases your reply also.
hoss: I suggest looking for local clubs, or forums of local lakes and streams near you. There should be some good resources close by that will be helpful as sources of information of local conditions. Just Sayin...RJS
