When I fish the surf, I do have to work with the tides. Low tide to scout the sloughs and high tide to fish them. Sunup and sundown are generally better. New moon and full moon effects how high and low the tides are. The more of these you can get together the better but I'm going fishing anyway.
The "fishing spots" app has a very detailed forecast. I don't pay much attention to it lol. If I can fish, I fish.

Don’t misunderstand i fish when i can and go as often as possible.....was only wondering if there was anything in this age of computers that might tell me when conditions are better in some days rather than others...im not completely unhappy standing in the surf on a sunny morning catching nothing but a tan.

Maybe it's WHERE you are standin in the surf. There are some places better than others . Some hold fish and others don't. The fish have to be there for you to catch them.

Go to your app store on your phone and search for "coastal tides" and also in Fisherman has a best time for fishing calander and there's a bunch of lunar calander apps in the app store. You can load your phone with them. I used to try fishing by all that. But now I just try and fish when the moon comes up around the same time as the sun. Mix that with the right tide, right barometric pressure the right bait and days off., You'll never go fishing again.lol just go have fun.
I think Egghead says it all.
I was informed by a guild named Ken, at Bridgeport, whom seamed very successful that the app called”fishing Times” shows the moon phases/ brightest times and darkest times at night. The fish see and eat better during the brightest times and are Hungry opposite of those times and that’s the best time to fish. But he also said a million things can change that...but you gotta start somewhere. So there is that👍
[quote=saw1]I get the tides. That can make a big difference as to when you would want to be at a certain place.
The lunar cycle, not so much. We've been catchin stripers every Saturday for the last 2 MONTHS nearly.
A lot of those Sat. the lunar cycle said POOR fishin. We caught 50 to 60 fish each of those days.
Hey:
What; using a net? You a commercial fishing netter? Because Mister; the LEGAL LIMIT is 1 fish per day... not 50-60 each day. Even if you are catch-n-releasing the unethical and fish stock damage you are doing is the very reason states have to put limits.

I use an app called Fishing and Hunting Solunar Time. It gives a forecast, has a page for tides, sunrise and set, same for the moon. You set it up for your area. But, how accurate it is is an opinion. Personally, I think local weather conditions have more influence over the fish than anything else. It's a free app so you don't have anything to lose. I have it on an Android phone. Don't know if it's compatible with an iPhone.

Hello green1. Here in Cal. the limit is 2 stripers per day min. length 18 inches.
Obviously you aren't familiar with the practice of catch and release.
That's 2 people fishing and that's about 25 to 30 fish apiece.
Some of those fish aren't 18 inches long and HAVE to be released.
We are using lures and the hook is usually in the jaw/lip of the fish so there isn't any damage to the fish we release.
Very similar to all the bass tournys they have all across the United States, releasing fish that there is no damage to doesn't hurt the fish population one bit.
I'm sure there aren't very many people on this site that would agree with you or your opinion.
However, you are entitled to think whatever you want.
Maybe you aren't that skilled of a fisherman and for that, I feel sorry for you.
For me however, it would be a waste of time and money if I had to keep every fish I caught and had to quit and go home when I had caught a limit.
There are a lot of days we fish and don't keep any no matter how many we catch. Especially when I'm fresh water bass fishin.
It will be interesting to see how many people here agree with you.
Well guys, what do y'all say? Should we all stop fishin whenever we've caught a limit of fish even if we don't keep any?
