Some are so self-centered it is mind boggling...

I bought a canoe and just take off to parts of the lake that are basically impossible to get to unless to hike through crazy, pathless mountain forests. I was fishing a in city lake this morning and 2 grumpy old guys sat and watched me for 20min. I go to put a new soft bait on and I hear "bout time, you done now?". "You'll know I'm done when I'm walking away" is all I could say. They mumbled something and walked 5 min down the lake and set up. Unless you pay the mortgage on the land, you don't have dibs.

I agree. We have a guy in our program that just watches people and then shows up a little early and takes the spot they were catching fish in. We call him Pelican. Some times we, intentionally, act like we’re catching fish when we’re not and sure enough. Next mornin? There he is. Anchored up and not catching anything. 😂

Maybe a little more trouble than I'd care going to.

I'm sure most fisherman have encountered or seen someone who is territorial about their fishing spots. You know, that guy who will set up his rods spaced out a mile long and not let you cast out near one. Or the guy that will cast close enough to you to hook you.

My question is, how close is too close? I'm a patient man but some people really push it. Rant over.

Fishing is fun, then sometimes it’s not. It’s really territorial at best. If you’re within casting distance of another fisherman in my opinion, you are to close. But then again, we don’t own the water. Here’s a true life fishing example. When I began bass fishing in Washington, in 1968, I fished the banks, bridges, docks etc.. I dreamt of gettin a boat So I could fish any where I wanted. . Then it happened. I got my first boat and what did I do? I fished the banks, points and docks. WHY? THATS WHERE THE MAJORITY OF FISH ARE1 Figure it out? Fishing is fun. If someone wantS to plop down next to you, welcome it. Meet a new friend and share experiences. The waters are available to “all”.

Was one tuesday early afternoon, figured i'd be somewhat alone on this particular creek.I was casting on this pool i knew had some big trout...even a salmon was a possibility. Then i hear a ruckus behind me coming down the bank and three guys were bragging how they had cleaned out that hole the previous day.Without even a "how ya doin" the head honcho, wearing waders of course, just walked right into the creek about five yards away from me and proceeded to come towards the pool i had a line in, casting his lure at will.I started seeing red and waited for him to step directly in my range, wich he did without a care in the world. Little man didnt see by then i had swapped out my baited hook and tied on the largest surface lure i had in my chest pocket box. I made a cat past his back leg..let it float near enough to where it hooked into his waders as i pulled hard near line test breaking strength, and said "oops im sorry" as it ripped his expensive waders...i believe they're the soft 5 mm chest waders. Never the less, he turned and saw this large fisherman behind him retrieving his lure and line...he took off, muttering something. I stayed to see if him and or his friends would come back to try to reestablish dominance over that spot...never did see them again the next few times i was there. So yeah...weekends are dumb to try to get some angling in...especially now. It was no picnic before, either. The week days are much better, or were.At least for me.

When bank fishing or wading in rivers I give others the space if they were there before me and for the most part other fishing persons offer the same respect. What really pisses me off and with the hot weather this summer is more frequent is when I am fishing some jerk brings their two labs and tosses water toys into the river and the labs have great fun chasing them creating all kinds of ruckus. Fish gone. Our the bring their kids , tubes, flotation devices extra loud radios and the fish are gone. Unfortunately it’s even happening on weekdays. Likely ignorance but irritating none the less.

Had wife out a few weeks ago
Had marked a nice ledge in open water that a big school of crappie were relating to
Put out marker bouys Spanning about 40 yards as reference and was able to stay on the school And catch a bunch.
These guys saw what I was doing and parked on our spot close enough I could see what brand of reel he was using.
Rude to say the least.
Didn’t say anything because wife was with me.
Another time me and brother on another spot on same lake. Had marked school and were catching one after another. Some guy with his family pulls up within 20 ft of us , drops anchor , and the whole family goes in for a swim
2500 acre lake. Why is that spot the place to swim ?

I don’t consider myself a fish Nazi. Hell I will provide coordinates, tell you what they are biting on , how deep, give you a lure if you don’t have one . I’ve even taken dock fishermen out in the boat and turned them on to a good day of fishing!
But to crowd a guy who has obviously put in the work to find and pattern fish. That is Weapons grade BS

I have to agree with you Ben. I have been wade fishing in the middle of the White River in Arkansas and had guides with their clients pull into the hole I was working. The funny thing was pulling trout after trout from underneath their boat and I enjoyed making comments to his clients as to what a great guide they were using as they never caught a fish and they were within 20 feet of me. It made me mad but I did have the last laugh.
