I'm sure most fisherman have encountered or seen someone who is territorial about their fishing spots. You know, that guy who will set up his rods spaced out a mile long and not let you cast out near one. Or the guy that will cast close enough to you to hook you.
My question is, how close is too close? I'm a patient man but some people really push it. Rant over.

Gotta get a boat, only way to assert dominance

Yup, I got kayaks for solo fishing wherever. Father in laws boat for the lake, and dads boat for salt. Land fishing i do from a bridge out in the country where there are only a few people around. Live in South Carolina, so maybe that's why I've never met a fish nazi š¤£š¤£

I bought a canoe and just take off to parts of the lake that are basically impossible to get to unless to hike through crazy, pathless mountain forests. I was fishing a in city lake this morning and 2 grumpy old guys sat and watched me for 20min. I go to put a new soft bait on and I hear "bout time, you done now?". "You'll know I'm done when I'm walking away" is all I could say. They mumbled something and walked 5 min down the lake and set up. Unless you pay the mortgage on the land, you don't have dibs.

No one owns the water, If someone has their stuff set out that far apart, jump right in the middle of them and go to fishing, I normally try to give the other guy at least a cast length away. Carry a 2 oz lead weight in your tackle box and if the casting at someone starts, you may have the upper hand.
Owning a boat doesn't always cure bad manners, I've had people go between me and the spot I was fishing, one of the main reasons I started fishing after dark as much as I can, not as many morons on the lake.

Very true. I figure itās not fair to me OR the weekend warriors to expect them to not have the opportunity to fish, water ski, or whatever they want to do on the weekends. The sheer number of people fighting over the boat docks on the weekends helps me to stay home and get other things done.
Sometimes even a boat donāt help
Had wife out a few weeks ago
Had marked a nice ledge in open water that a big school of crappie were relating to
Put out marker bouys Spanning about 40 yards as reference and was able to stay on the school And catch a bunch.
These guys saw what I was doing and parked on our spot close enough I could see what brand of reel he was using.
Rude to say the least.
Didnāt say anything because wife was with me.
Another time me and brother on another spot on same lake. Had marked school and were catching one after another. Some guy with his family pulls up within 20 ft of us , drops anchor , and the whole family goes in for a swim
2500 acre lake. Why is that spot the place to swim ?
I donāt consider myself a fish Nazi. Hell I will provide coordinates, tell you what they are biting on , how deep, give you a lure if you donāt have one . Iāve even taken dock fishermen out in the boat and turned them on to a good day of fishing!
But to crowd a guy who has obviously put in the work to find and pattern fish. That is Weapons grade BS

I agree. We have a guy in our program that just watches people and then shows up a little early and takes the spot they were catching fish in. We call him Pelican. Some times we, intentionally, act like weāre catching fish when weāre not and sure enough. Next mornin? There he is. Anchored up and not catching anything. š
