I think this about says it all
The object of Veterans' Day is for all Americans to remember and honor all of those those who served the USA.
When I was a boy 11 NOV was known as Armistice Day which recalled the day that World War 1 ended.

WOW ! Where can I get one of those ?
I shouldnt say this here, but if our head guy in government said publicly about one of our greatest men to ever have served in the armed forces, was captured and was put to work in a prisoners camp for five years, solitary ...all that. He said he didnt figured hes a hero because he got captured. That might be a small testimonial for others who act the same way in this day and age. Im looking for a better explanation, but the more i think about it..it bothers me too damn much.
I feel one reason why we do the two step with veterans is since our fearless leader had said in public that he didnt like a certain senator who fought in nam and was captured, tortured for five years before he was released or was freed a hero because he was captured. That statement, like other buffoonish remarks on other things canleave the impression on others that if you are miltary, then you're nothing but disposable.Talk about burning your bacon!!
To often those who are on TV asking for money are more in it for themselves than for the Vets. This Vietnam Vet used to send money to Wounded Warriors each month until I found out what the head of it was doing with our money. I will personally hand out a fifty dollar bill to a needy Vet when I see one and can confirm they actually served.
What fries me is that if I send $20 to any organization that's supposed to help vets (OR JUST ABOUT ANY POLITICAL CAMPAIGN), they'll spend three times that much sending me letters asking for more. It seems like fund raising for its own sake!
im not too keen on that bunch that take out a disabled vet fishing. Not because the person gets in some fishing time, but the whole parade made about how great they are for doing so, and how much it costs that they always need donations to do so.I mean, does it really take a brand new 40 to fifty thousand dollar boat with all normal fishing gear to take someone out on the water. There not even set up for the people in wheelchairs...they just use a ramp to place them on the boat. Then set the wheel brakes on it Oh yeah...they made sure to always show all the "sponsors decals" splattered all over it . why cant the manufacturers donate the stuff, boat included, and take it as a tax writeoff or something?.

If I'm not mistaken, and I may be, they get a double write off. One for the donation and one for the advertising.....
One of my favorites are these agencies or organization that will spend thousands on a fee to hire some b-rated actor to beg us for only 19 buck a month. Think that money was ill spent?

So much to comment on so where to start? First, when we donate to causes, my wife checks out what percentage of the money goes to the cause and what goes to expenses, specified or not. We have noticed that many of the veterans charities have operating expenses out side of reasonable limits. So who is gaining from this?
Second, we have had a variety elected politicians who really haven’t done much for the military community, that includes McCain, Kerry, and the SEAL whose name I’ve stricken from my mind because he, in my estimation, should have been tried for war crimes. The Vietnamese wanted him charged but it was given a a political solution because he had a MOH.
Third, I left Vietnam but Vietnam has never left me. I remember it every day, I dream about being in combat very frequently, not bad dreams, just we have a mission so let’s get going. I remember the good and bad times and those who were killed and wounded and what I did. Every day is Memorial Day for me and some times I have tears in my eyes, like now. Combat changes everybody forever. You can never go back and you cannot avoid the physical and psychological pain of some of your memories. The only thing you can do is make it a part of you and drive on. I’ve done that so I can function with out debility, not every combatant can do so and PTSD affects their life beyond what can be tolerated. If I could do it over I would do so knowing the results, it was the right fight for the right reasons at the right time. If good people don’t fight the evil that exists, then society is doomed to bow to evil. De Oppreso Liber.

In my 20’s I worked for Aerojet General testing torpedo electronics for the U. S. Navy.
I voluntarily enlisted after being drafted 5 times in 6 months. I was always deferred because of my job at Aerojet and also as a full-time student in college.
Finally the draft board released me from the draft and I continued at Aerojet and school. Why did they waste so much money drafting me over & over?
Oh yes, because they were a government agency and could do whatever they wanted.
