It's shameful Paul. The richest country in the world. I read a piece today that said if you had started saving $10000 dollars a day - a DAY - at the time the pyramids were being built, over 4500 years ago you would still not have as much money as the 4 wealthiest citizens of the U.S.

What drives us is greed.

Another reason is very few of our politicians actually served in the military. They either know very little about it or don't care one way or the other. Veterans' care should be a priority, not an inconvenience to deal with. I think most people feel the same. They say they care and that's about it.

Someone that has never done something are usually a bad person to make decisions that effect those that do that something. Other thing that is wrong is helping their buddies make privately run companies that cost way more and are strictly for profit instead of a profit that helps the people ( that do that something) and the country.

Ya makes you mad that people rather make money and by a big yacht size of football field then get veterans of our streets

I had a friend named LeRoy. He was from Oklahoma but had been born here. He had a bad heart and COPD. Had no family left either. He was a Vietnam vet. 2 Purple Hearts and a bronze star. He came here to die. Wanted to be buried here. As best I could I cared for him for 9 years, not bragging, he just had no one to help him. He smoked like a train and none of the healthcare people would help him because his place smelled bad. In Feb. of 2019, I came in to town to check on him and found him lying on the floor, curled up in a fetal position, dead. He should not have died alone. He should have been honored. He fought our battles. God richly bless all of you who have served. I AM GRATEFUL!

That's a story told much too often. Those of us who served all know that we don't expect a lot in return. Some respect, and some semblance of dignity when we pass. Maybe a hand up if we need it.

Here's a link to a site in Delaware - I list it because I'm familiar with it and I know they do good things. The other is for CalVet and I don't really know if they're worth a crap or not, but it's a place to start looking. If you really do care, think about volunteering some of your time or donating a couple of bucks to someone who you think might help. Get involved!

Right on the mark Spirit. We have our priorities screwed up. Every politician loves to cut taxes but the majority of the money always goes to the top earners in the country. Many of the top earners have said they don't need tax cuts. These are often the same people that contribute big bucks to politicians running for office. Seems kinda strange these guys get big money tax savings. Maybe it's a coincidence?? Is there any logical reason why they are able to pass on to heirs the billions they have accumulated? How much money do these people need?

I put 24 years in, 4 Navy and 20 Army. A couple of things that really piss me off are the sorry treatment of veterans by our government and the numerous panhandlers that have never served but claimed to have done so to engender sympathy. Walking the streets of San Francisco you see more panhandlers claiming to have been in special operations than would be possible. Ask them a question and they can’t answer it because they are phony. This has been published many times but people never seem to question these claims. It’s too bad because it makes it hard for the real vets who are having a bad time of it.

Something that I find perplexing is the ads that run on TV looking for money to be donated to groups that help wounded veterans. I thank the people who organize and volunteer their time to help those in need. What frosts me is that whatever these wounded vets need should be provided by the VA. It is sad that people have to solicit funds for something should be freely given out by the U.S. Government.

Can anyone tell me why veteran's day isn't a paid holiday - for veterans who can produce a DD214 only?

I can attest that Greywulff will reach out to someone in need and provide comfort and support. Earlier this year he sensed from a post that I recently lost my darling wife of 37 years to cancer. He contacted me by private message and has been a tremendous support through the mourning process. Hardly a week goes by without him checking in. There are no words to express my gratitude.
