Really? I lived WI for over 50 years. We always had a license. Only got checked once by a warden. Did they change that in the last 10 years? I live in TN now.

Yes. I believe two years ago. Understand you must purchase a license, but once you do that, all you need is to show your WI driver's license.

I was lake fishing and had my license with my fresh water box, next week went salmon fishing in Puget Sound, got stopped without my license and catch record card. Gave them my Drivers license, they checked on line and did not give me a ticket, but advised that I could not continue to fish. Spent the rest of the day driving the boat for my buddies. Washington State.

I will probably regret this post, but several years ago in was ice fishing Shell Lake in the late afternoon. For about thirty minutes my flags went crazy. I ended up with four walleyes, all between four and five pounds. I stuck them in a 5 gallon pail and proceeded to walk the half mile back to the truck. Because I was over my limit as well as not adhering to the "slot limit" I figured I'd better hide the pail in the thick reeds just beyond the landing. No sooner got to my truck when the warden zoomed in with his brights on. Searched everything, and I mean everything. I'm sure he may have been watching from afar with his binoculars. He left, but it knew he suspected something. As soon as he pulled away, my walleyes came alive. Whap, whap, their tails snapping against the plastic pail. I don't do that anymore.

I used to lose a lot of licenses. Started to Xerox them in black & white and then waterproof them. one for tackle box, one in back pocket, one in glove box and the original safely in my tent. I'd write COPY in red; some times I'd get told it's illegal to photo copy a license. Wrong: fully legal to copy a TAX receipt.

Thanks. I planned a trip to WI but this virus thing put that on hold. Although I imagine I'd have purchase an out of state license now since I live in TN.

You would, ghaynes1. I can only asume, since you're in Wisconsin, that, once your license is purchased, all you would need to show would be your drivers license. But the seller (DNR) certainly can answer that. Best of luck.

Easiest I found is to get your license through DNR on your phone and it is always on your if you need it. Missouri does not require license once your reach 65. 😁

Is this true for non-residents?

ka98 What's your location? Alabama let's you renew online, then I assume I can save this to show f/proof. As the person wrote earlier, it's your responsibility to know your state's laws and I'll add that your tax payment here gives them their jobs. Take your rights!
