Guys and gals, I need some help. My wife is in bad shape and I think I'm losing her. I had her in the hospital on Friday. She's malnourished and dehydrated and has been for some time. I haven't been able to get her to eat in 5 days and very little for months before that. I've tried getting electrolytes and ensure in her but she will take a sip and is done. She was so weak I was afraid to get her down the six steps to our house so I called the Rescue Squad and they got her into the car. I was hoping they would keep her at least over night to get some nourishment into her but they didn't. She was so weak that I barely was able to get her back into the car. It took 15 minutes to get up those six steps.
Her name is Gail. What I need are a bunch of prayers. I thank you in advance and you don't need to respond to this because I know most of you and feel pretty sure it's a done deal. THANKS! Mike
Something we will all face eventually, and I dread the prospect. Done, friend.
Prayers? YOU GOT 'EM, MIKE! Definitely, your Wife (and you) are in my prayers!
Not a praying kind of guy, but I do wish you and your wife Godspeed and do draw strength from where you can for a recovery and peace. That being said a hospital that sends a dehydrated probably malnourished patient home is not a hospital I want. The appropriate treatment would have been at least IV hydration until she was stabilized and her vitals were approaching something near normal. That might take a couple of days. Follow that by some diagnosis as to why she is in this condition and then a care plan to maintain her health perhaps with a the assistance of a visiting nurse and nutritionist. But you do have my wishes for her recovery. I think you have been trying to take care of her for some time and that is tough. You are to Be commended for standing by her and doing what you can to take care of her. After caring for my parents in their final years even with lots of medical help I know how tough this can be.

Mike, Gail and yourself will be in my prayers. (& just already have been)
Prayers out to you and her and the rest of the family. Remember to take care of yourself so you can take care of her.
We are there for you Mike & Gail with prayers of comfort and healing.

I agree completely with Jim. As a trained caregiver, this hospital is not one I would want my wife to go to. Not sure if you have other options but you need to explore them for her treatment. Soon! If you haven't already. She needs to be hydrated at the very least and a full evaluation done medically and maybe psychologically for depression. I only know what you have shared but I hope you can get her better care. Good luck. You have plenty of support.
