Just from the last dialog, I'll pass! Just Sayin...RJS
Don't eat the liver. The liver is what filters out all the toxins. The flesh should be fine. When eating fish, generally the thing you need to be aware of is mercury and other heavier metals - they don't get filtered out and can accumulate in the flesh. But even then, eating just a few poses no risk - it is making fish a regular part of your diet that is a cause for concern. Enjoy your tilapia. BTW - I don't eat tilapia ever since I saw Mike Rowe dealing with them on an episode of Dirty Jobs. I know better. But still. You can have my portion.

Do they spray the ponds or the grass near the ponds? Because if not I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be safe to eat.
It's often said that you shouldn't eat tilapia in general because they will eat odd things like bird poop that fall into the water, but then again so will most panfish species so I don't see the big deal.

They should be ok to eat unless they are dumping chemicals or raw sewage into the pond. How many lakes, ponds or channels now days don’t have a few chemicals going into them? Tilapia are vegetarians and don’t eat poop unless they are really hungry. Fillet down past the rib cage and cut the back fillet off. StaY away from the guts. Very messy. Good eating.
Wonder what those that are imported from China are fed then sold in big box grocery stores?
I know what they said they were eating on that episode of Dirty Jobs. They were on a fish farm where they were raising stripers and the tilapia were cleaning up after them. You figure it out. Like I said, you can have my portion. I'll eat the striper.
