Its not uncommon to see 70-90 deer in evening just mowing down whatever's planted.seen bean fields have to b replanted

They can put a big hurt on a crop for sure. Bears can mess up a cornfield, too. Good luck with the problem!

I picked a good mess of silver queen out of my garden yesterday. I got 23 quarts off the cob. And gave 4 dozen ears to the kids. The next mess I will pickle on the cob.

Nice haul Mike! I'm hoping ours turns out as well... been awful dry here...

I buy a 50lb sack of corn every week and a 50 lb sack of oats every two weeks and feed the deer, squirrels, coons and birds in a feeder I made. I also have one or two deer mineral blocks for them also. Game camera set up. It is nice to see the 2 bucks and 3 to 4 does eat. Some at night and some during the daytime. Oh yes, the crows come in also. The squirrels are fun to watch climbing and jumping around. Used to have some flying squirrels here but they seem to be gone now. They were really nice to watch.

I’d enjoy that too. Don’t hunt any more . Always liked seeing nature.

I used to deer hunt every year but now I just hunt with my camera. Fell out of my deer stand one evening. That almost did me in. At 77 I try to keep on the ground. My wife does not like hunting and the last buck I shot I got her to help dress it out. Se said never again, to much work. OK. So I just fish. She that is just fine except you have to do some of the cleaning of those catfish too. Cannot seem to get ahead on those women. The first wife I had would not even clean or cook my frogs, squirrels, deer or fish. Now my daughters by her will just dig in and get to work on them. Strange, ain’t it?

Smut is a soil born disease, check ur soil fertility & go easy on the nitrogen
If possible, try a 3 yr crop rotation,i know its hard to do with some of the permanent gardens
Some countries eat the smut when its young, supposed to b a delicacy

I feel your pain about the Coons.. This has been the worst year with them for me. Killed 13 so far.. My Sweet Corn is about ready to pick, so they are aggressive!

I have a neighbor who feeds one. Of course that means lots of little ones every spring. Gives me an unending supply of targets from my bathroom window at night. Found 7 sitting on my bird feeder at one time. The foxes ate well that week.

Silver queen very popular here, especially in Lancaster area
Deer also love it, planted 6 ac of it a few yrs back, they ate the whole field
We have a deer problem here

Actually, the local deer have
a corn problem; they're addicted !
If they ever got ahold of any fermented corn, then you'd have
a deer problem; drunken bucks can get pretty feisty !
