Remember, just because it is called a fishing or frog gig, doesn't make it legal in a lot of states. Even if they are sold in you state, so check first. It was illegal for frogs at one time, the law stated, 'cannot break the skin'. Now since they made it legal, seems no one wants to use one. Catch frogs in the 'drive by' program.

I used to use 1 about 5" across for spearing 2-4 foot eels at night on the flats with a coleman lantern wading around.

Judging by the blood,it looks like they gaffed it. Unless that's from the Gig.

We're not happy about the USPS in WI.
We ordered something from a store last Monday was supposed to
be guaranteed delivery by last Monday :(

It took all this time to go from the 21st to the 29th
from MUSCODA, WI 53573 to the 29th to OAK CREEK WI.
and it hasn't even left there :(

That is a very nice fish, probably weights more than the
both of us put together.

Zoey & Beth :)

The hole can be cut up to 48 square feet. You spend a lot of time looking down that hole hoping a sturgeon swims through it.
The record sturgeon speared on Lake Winnebago is 212 lbs. the one my nephew got in that picture was a little over 100 lbs.

The blood is from the spear. When you throw the spear it has a handle on it but then the spear head releases from the handle and there is a heavy line attached to the spear. You then pull him up and out on your shanty floor. Then you can take him outside and celebrate.
Lake Winnebago is 10 miles wide and 30 miles long. Lotsa area that you can cover.
