What branch of the military did you serve or support?

I spent a little bit of time in Vietnam. To this day, I'm overcome with despair when anyone mentions MUD! But I lucked out - kind of. I was sent to England on a 3-year assignment. That was GREAT, except that the base I was sent to had just flunked an ORI. For 6 months, they just about ground us into the dirt, getting the base ready for the next one! During that time, I didn't get to see much of the barracks. It was eat, sleep and work - but mostly work.
I'm not complaining, though. I'm the person that I am today because of the experiences that I've had.

While I was in electronic school at Keesler on day after class three of the class were told to report to a building for testing but not told what testing was for. After four hours of testing, each one was sat down to talk with an officer. The first question he asked me was," why did you take the test because you can not be on flying status because you are wearing glasses". I told him I was ordered to report for testing and did not known what type of testing it was. That is when he told me it was for bombardier school. He did tell me that if it weren't for the glasses I would have been selected. I guess that was as close to making an officer as you can come and not make it. My electronic training paid off in the long run because I worked for Texas Instruments just shy of 34 years. I don't think they could have used a bombardier .

Being a former Electronics Tech i thought of a good use around Desert Storm time for all our antiquated electronic equipment from years gone by that were just collecting dust in the warehouse. Thus a bombardier could have been useful.

Do a fly over and drop all that crap we weren't using any more and it would have hit the ground like a pressure cooker.

Plum I found my father’s military documents after we recently moved. My dad served in the Air Force as a flight surgeon from 54 To 56. He had joined the National Guard in 48. I have his fishing and hunting journal and it was written in there when he joined the NG. He was discharged as a Captain. Don’t know if this qualifies for your list. Thanks for what you are doing recognizing our military members. It’s much deserved.

Would you like to mention what branch of the military and when you served?

Many of us have kept in touch with other service members in one form or another. Therefore, I am going to keep a tally of what branch and service time and post it at a later time. You just may see that someone served at the same time and branch as you.

If you were unable to serve in the respect of wearing a uniform, but yet served with support please let us know.

Since you brought that up, Larry, you've kinda got me curious ! Did anyone else here go to the Great Lakes Training Center around
Dec.17th to the 31st, 1066 ?
Just askin' !
