Nice catch ๐Ÿ‘
Here in western North Carolina we find those Rainbow we find in creeks and rivers. You could really Hoss them around with #30 braid #10 lb leader.
I like to use ultralight spinning gear 6lb w/2-4 lb leader. Canโ€™t do a lot of Hossing. Just saying

Ward, I'm certainly not fishing for rainbows with 30 # braid! I'm Kokanee fishing with 30 lb braid that has a 6 lb leader to a dodger and micro hootchie on downriggers from 30 to 75 ft. The Kokanee never see the braid. They are not line shy anyways! The 30 lb braid serves two purposes! 1. Durability. I can get two or three seasons out of it. Also, it is thick enough to hold in a release clip on the downrigger.

Kokanee fishing was slow today, but couldn't keep the rainbows off! Hooked this 20" fatty clear down at 45' trolling.

I wouldnโ€™t be upset if I caught a fat rainbow like that. Congrats. ๐Ÿ‘

Fun to catch rainbows especially ones like that, but if you've ever eaten Kokanee you'd know why he might be upset.

I have no idea what a Kokanee is, but Iโ€™ll look it up.

Kokanees are land locked sockeye salmon. They don't get very big, but they are delicious, and they're a favorite target here in California in the lakes that hold them. They like cold deep water and they hang out in schools and if the lake also happens to have brown trout in it, the browns feast on them and will hardly eat anything else. Brown trout in a Kokanee lake are a tough target.
