How did the fish get caught, without a hook?
Lamprey ell. Native to the west coast rivers. Migrat to fresh water to spawn. Or into small streams. A delicacy to our coastal Indians. They do attach themselves to fish in the ocean and you will often catch a salmon or steelhead with the round bit mark on them. They don’t usually kill their host. Nd they don’t squally attach to warm blooded critters like us. They are mostly harmless, just don’t look harmless. They are invasive to the Great Lakes.
Find info and footage on EELS at Oregon City Falls in Portland Oregon and the Indians who traditionally gather them.

Hi msmllm,
I think it was Flytier that mentioned they controlled the population by electroshocking them
when they go to the streams to migrate.

Looks like a lampray eel. A big trouble maker.
What kind of trouble do they cause.
Been in th great lakes for over 60 yrs. In the 50's just about killed every thing in the big lakes. They are still a problem but are being contained, managed, whatever that means????
That's a Weird fish. I never heard of them before either.
It is a lamprey that decimated the Blue Pickeral and Just about the Lake Trout. Very dangerous if they get into the Great Lakes again. They have traps that were keeping them in check hope they are still doing that and this was a single one that got through.

Welcome aboard. Hang on - have fun.
Just a simple lamphray, Don't know if the spelling is right.
Talk about a hickey.......
They did the special on river monsters and he had them biting right thróugh his wet suit so they will bite warm blooded animals. At least they only break the skin and then hold on with suction instead of burrowing in.
That is what is called a lamprey, They are a pain in the butt. Once they latch on, they don't want to let go. They love fresh blood. Beware of them.
