I love taking children fishing when they are very young, like we see in the pictures. I was also hooked on fishing when I was 5. I also got my 2 boys hooked on fishing much sooner.

When the oldest, Alex, was about 4, and his brother, Dan was ONLY 18 months old, we would go fishing, a lot, along the bank of a creek that tied in 2 lakes. The oldest, Alex would have to wear a LIFE JACKET FISHING! I would take Dan, still tied in his car seat, out of the car and place the car seat on the bank of the creek. If my son Alex, or I hooked onto a fish, we would take the rod over to Dan, to have Dan, while he was still tied in the car seat, help us pull the fish in.

I also have 7 grandchildren, 4 boys, and 3 girls. All of them have go on charter boats fishing, and also on my small 17 foot boat, fishing. My son Dan also has a kayak and a boy, named, HUNTER. They fish both on the kayak and also from shore. I have also fished, with Dan, and Hunter, on the kayak. Some time, when my kids, and grandkids visit us in DE, I will take them fishing for bass in a small pond, on my friends farm. We always catch largemouth bass in that pond, which we release back into the pond, so they will be BIGGER when we catch them next time.

I never wanted to be bothered with kids while I'm trying to fish. (Don't have any grandchildren). You don't really get to fish but have to help them baiting & taking their fish off. Bah humbug

Aw msmllm, you're missing all the joy. I never never had children, but I used to invite friends with kids to come and fish on my boat. I loved teaching them what we were doing and why. Then when they caught fish they were so excited, I thought they would burst. By the end of the day ,they were worn out,and getting cranky, and then they went home. The perfect ending, for a perfect day.

Well I have to take what I said back (a little). Used to take my cousin fishing & he would put the nightcrawler on hook and take the fish off for me. These were pay lakes. I didn't want people bothering me while I was fishing so I took Charlie to make the men think I had a child. I really didn't think I looked that good, but there were some younger men who tried to say "lets me & you try another lake". I hate to say NO but never wanted to go out with them. I'm sure they had more than fishing in mind. This happened once when I went squirrel hunting by myself. This (I thought) nice man saw me in the woods by myself & we just spoke & I went off in another direction, & when I'd get someplace else he'd show up. Finally I started talking to him. He said "I can tell you are new at this and was giving me a lot of pointers. Well, it was in October (cold that morning, but warmed up where I ended up taking the heavy jacket off & sitting on it) Finally I thought hmmm think I'll get up and move along. I like being alone anyway, --- and I did have a husband. So when I preceded to get up and put my jacket on, he said here let me help you, He tried to pull me close and kiss me but he wasn't a very tall man, and I pushed him very strongly away. Me heading out of those woods and him following behind trying to change the subject to hunting. The property belonged to my Uncle, so that was where I was used to hunting. I told my Uncle about the incident & told him not to tell my Mother because she was babysitting my daughter and it would just worry her and she would want me to stop hunting. Finally my Uncle let me post his property which I did. The next time I went hunting (I took Charlie) with me.
I could see that same man from a distance on my Uncle's propery. So if I can remember (Charlie) told the man he was on posted property. So the rest of that year, I went squirrel hunting close to my Uncle's house.
Later on I gave up squirrel hunting entirely but still have my shotguns.

Testosterone sometimes gets in the way of clear thinking - sorry you were out through that experience. Glad that you were able to continue hunting until you decided to stop. Not all are like that. Have a great day and tight lines.
