Bluegill record for Utah is 2.7 lbs back in ‘93. My biggest was 2.2 and I thought that was big.

I just saw this on my FaceBook feed. Perhaps you have already seen it, but I thought many of you would like to see it. This is stuff of day dreams! The posting said it came in just under 4 lbs.

Surprised the Governor didn't have him arrested. Mike

The mouth on the fish was still smallish so it had to stay at the table a little longer. If that is real I can’t imagine the anglers thoughts then and now.

I am from Algonac Michigan. The Chris Craft Boat company was located by the great boat builder Chris Smith. There are miles of shore line and many docks.

Every spring I fished private boat houses and docks around Anchor Bay and Harsens Island, Russel Island, Strawberry Island, Big and Little Muscamoot Bay and Goose Bay. The Bluegills are plate size 9 inches and catching a limit is the norm. Just a small hook and piece of night crawler it small worms. Under a bobber or my favorite is a long rod 8-10 Dick Swann noodle rod. Same set up minus bobber. Jig slowly and the trick is the Bluegill take the bait on the drop. So pull the up let the bait drop and half way down give your rod a sharp jerk upward, fish on.

Thought I would share sone info to motivate some of you. There is also 2 World record events that take place every year. The Jobbie Nooner Party at Gull Island and the Float Down. Google both and you will see a real boaters party.

Feel free to contact me if you are fishing Lake St. Clair or the St. Clair River ir Detroit River for Small Mouth Bass and Walleye fishing tips. I was dialed in after living and fishing around these bodies of water for 40 years.

Lastly what an outstanding catch.

When eating Bluegill, consider boiling instead of frying. Once boiled return to refrigerator to cool, make seafood or cocktail sauce. Bluegill taste just like shrimp this way and the Mrs. will not complain about the fish smelling up your home.

I consider myself an open minded person with lots to learn. I’ve never heard of this process with a bluegill. That being said, millions of folks never heard of grits. I’m gonna try this but underneath the cover of darkness and only with my wife with doors locked. Not to demean you or the preparation of this fish, I assure you. Thing is, down here that boiler won’t boil. Here fish are meant to be fried, end of story. I am gonna try it though.

Got a buddy that doesn’t eat fish. I will try this on him and tell him its shrimp to see how it goes.

I had the same thoughts “boil gills” you are crazy. Normally pan fried. Drakes breading mix and sometimes crushed frosted flakes or crushed cheez it crackers for variety. Or ceviche gills is another winner. I have even ground the gills and made gill burgers.

My list of the tastiest fish
Yellow Lake Perch
Walleye Blue Gill
Catfish
Trout
Crappies
To each his own

Amazon sells Drakes breading mix. You cannot screw this up. Too thick add water. Too thin wait a few minutes and it will thicken on its own. Highly recommended.
