Also since it’s only happening with your chatterbaits, check them to make sure they don’t have a ding or scrape that could be making contact with the end of the line, causing a fray. Also the hooks, same thing. I have a few crank baits that will somehow flip enough during a cast to catch the end of my line. Just a thought.

Spider wire ultra cast, got it new about 2 weeks ago, I also used 30 and 60lb braid, again only break offs with chatterbaits just seems like I’m unlucky with them

Check your rod guides. A cracked or scored guide can damage your line. Also take a look at your reel. All surfaces smooth?

Do you notice a frequency of occurrence change as your lines suffer more abrasions?

I’m running 20lb mono (yes I know it’s relatively high for mono) on an slx dc, I always seem to be loosing only chatter baits, I throw 3/4 once, with a keitech swimbait, and it seems like mid cast (as it’s in the air) it breaks off, with no backlash’s, or fraying of the line, is it because I’m casting far distances so the power I’m putting behind it is snapping? Or what could be causing it, my knots are solid, using improved clinch knots

Check your guides for any nicks or cracks. I lost a bunch of lures surf casting until I figured out that I had micro cracks in the guides that I could only see when the rod was bent/loaded for casting.

Good advice to check you guides. I would also check the intake on your reel. The spool guide can also get worn over time. Tight lines.

Your chatterbaits have a problem with their siblings or living quarters. Once they get a chance their running away from home. Once you adopt more, you need to settle their issues whatever it might be. Just sit down with them and explain to them that you want them around for a long time.

Check the guides on your rod, it's possible one has a rough spot that's nicking your line.

Agree that it sounds like a bad guide(s). but that it only happens with one type lure may indicate the lure is the problem. Check the eyelet you tie to on the lure for any sharp edges.

Most chatterbaits come with a duolock type snap on them. At least the ones I have do. If he removed the snap and tied to the blade, that will cut line every time. But he said it was further down the line????

I don’t think there is any doubt you have either a defective line or something that is causing a defect like a guide, or both! Just sayin...RJS

👍 A mystery for sure. Still, if it only happens with Chatterbaits, that is a common denominator.

I do not know the what the problem is but I throw 1/2 oz chatter baits on 50# Power Pro using a Palomar knot with no problem.

I throw mine on a med.hvy.spinning rod with 12lb Nanofil and 12lb fluorocarbon leader. Never had a problem. I did lose one in the rocks 2 weeks ago,but thats a different story.

Had that prob throwing heavy baits with fluerocarbon but never mono or braid. Fluero can heat up at the rod tip and break. Sucks.

The other thing to check is the top guide. Get a light and check for cracks in the ceramic or grooves in the metal. That'll cut you off.
