Keep loosing my chatter baits!

I’m running 20lb mono (yes I know it’s relatively high for mono) on an slx dc, I always seem to be loosing only chatter baits, I throw 3/4 once, with a keitech swimbait, and it seems like mid cast (as it’s in the air) it breaks off, with no backlash’s, or fraying of the line, is it because I’m casting far distances so the power I’m putting behind it is snapping? Or what could be causing it, my knots are solid, using improved clinch knots

So we know it’s 20lb mono, but what brand and model is it? Any idea how old it is? There’s no reason for 20lb mono to break mid-cast under the weight of a 3/4oz chatterbait if you’re certain your knot is good.

Spider wire ultra cast, got it new about 2 weeks ago, I also used 30 and 60lb braid, again only break offs with chatterbaits just seems like I’m unlucky with them

What knot are you tying, and might be a good time to grab a spool of 30lb braid. Chatterbaits can get pricy if you're losing them all.

Tried 30lb braid, frayed incredibly easy, on my other bait caster I use 60 lb, but I seem to have the same problem, again ONLY with chatter baits, tying mostly improved clinch but I also tried polomar knots

Cabela’s hyper braid, reason why I switched off it is because I was getting frays incredibly easy because it’s the clothy kind, as well as it was fraying just from the line coming off the spool quickly

Really make sure you are wetting your knot when cinching it down. I personally can not be a bigger proponent of the palomar knot too. Super easy to tie and works excellently with mono braid and even flouro.

Take a Q-tip and run it thru each of your guides. I got a feeling you have a guide burr, or possibly lost an insert in a guide that your braid cut into. If you have one, the cotton on the swab will make it apparent.

Ya know... I normally do that with every song rod I have but yet I forgot to do so, on a rod I think is over 20 years old.. thanks for reminding me

One other possibility is that mono breaks down over time and from sunlight too. Could be bad mono.

I had this happen on an old baitcaster. For me, even though it wasn’t backlashing, it was an unresolved knot in the spool that was the problem. I would chuck out a cast, spool would hit that knot, and the momentum of the cast meeting the sudden impact of the knot would snap the line at the knot no matter how good my knot was.

Check the guides on your rod, it's possible one has a rough spot that's nicking your line.
