And in America, you can have and express your opinion. . . depending on what state you live in.

I'm land locked now too.
The problem is fresh salt water species gets to us frozen. And more expensive than a good steak.

I'm a retired dive master from the S. fla area.
Hog fish is EXCELLENT. Especially with a lobster cream sauce on top.

I still have my spear gun. Some day I may go back to the keys.

As a kid growing up in N.H., my favorite freshwater fish were
yellow perch and bullheads
(horned pout); for saltwater, it
was haddock or cod (pollock would do in a pinch), and a nice swordfish steak, as long as it wasn't overcooked and dried
out; I've had some really good ones and others, not so much !

Stiil like all of those, and waiting (anxiously) for my first taste of walleye, as I've heard/read that they're even better than perch !

Back around '05/'06 (can't remember which year), I had
my best season ever, catching
all my biggest fish within a four
month period; started with one day landing a beautiful, 18-in.
rainbow early in the morning,
then going out just before dinner and catching a fat, 16-in. brookie
that weighed close to two lbs. !
Shared them with a friend who seasoned them, wrapped them
in H/D foil, and cooked them on the grill; we shared them and
each had a taste of both, they were GREAT ! Trout needs to
come out of really cold, clean water to be really good; a brown trout I caught later that summer
came out of a small remote
pond, which was rather warm
for trout - I took one bite and
was so disappointed at the taste
and texture that I threw it in the trash - I don't think even my neighbor's cat would have
eaten it !

A few weeks earlier (than that incident), I had caught my personal best brown trout,
which measured 21-1/2 in. and
weighed in at 3-1/4 lbs. ! Within
a few more weeks, I had caught another 18-in. rainbow and my best bass (so far); it was 22-in.
and 5-3/4 lbs.! To sum it up, between early-April and late-
June, I had caught my two best rainbows, best brownie and brookie, and my best largemouth bass ! Oh, yeah ! I almost forgot
about the two 4-lb. smallies I caught shortly after that largemouth ! Too bad every season can't be that great !

What a season for you, Big A. I caught about a 3# brown trout last year. When I brought it in the canoe it regurgitated a vole. I almost tossed my cookies. Can't eat a brownie to this day.

What a great year. Not many people can say they have done that good. Enjoy yourself fishing and be safe out there

I'm guessing that not just bass,
pike, musky or catfish like a
'warm meal' on occasion ! Many species will take mice, voles,
chipmunks, ducklings off the surface when they get the
chance !

I'll add calamari "squid" to my list.
There's a place here where the sport fishing boats dock and leave from.
Among other items they make a great calamari sandwich.

I tried Calamari at the Olive Garden, but really didn't know what it was at the time. Someone said it was Octopus. I wouldn't have eaten it if I'd known that, but it was good.
Also for the cheaper fish at Captain' Ds. The country fried fish from there isn't as greasy & doesn't have as much batter. My very favorite is Red Lobster. Like any fish they serve.

Only problem with having a
'banner year' is that any season following it that doesn't measure
up seems rather disappointing !
Still trying to match it; maybe I'll get to beat one or two now that I'm out here in Arizona - much
better opportunities here !

We have a fast food place here called "Long John Silvers"
It's not half bad. They give you hush puppies with your meal.
Wife and go there for lunch at times if we are in the area.

I've never tried squid except to use as bait for red snapper. Also haven't had walleye. Would like to try them.
My favorites would have to be.
Crappie
Sunfish
Trout- mostly rainbow
Catfish
Bass
I don't get out very much or go to far to fish.
