I like white buck tails and white swim baits. You also can fish blood worms or sand worms. For fishing lures I like jetties or some kind of inlet with current movement . Incoming tides are the best. In the Hudson River i like about one hour before and 2 hours after high tide. Right know the bite off of beacon is pretty good during the incoming tide. I usually don’t fish a out going tide unless I’m fishing the rip out at sandy hook. You can still catch fish on an outgoing just not as good as incoming

Many bait and tackle shops are doing curbside. My go to here on western LI is a 4” white swimbait. Mostly schoolie stripers around here. White gulp on fluke, but the water is still a bit cold for them. Bottom fishing use fresh clam.
Live bait is best but most important is to fish the changing tide and find the trough, just behind the breakers, cast in there and wait.... #2 circle hooks to hold the bait and a 4 or 5 ounce triangle weight at the bottom of your two hook rig are a necessity, unless you're in the Bay areas. Good luck and watch for sharks....really.

I’m probably going to be fishing the surf and have no experience with this so what lures should I order? I have a kastmaster, and might order a spook or yo zuri crystal minnow if those are good ideas. Also if anybody has any tips or spots to saltwater fish on LI because I’ve never been

Oh and if you get lucky and have the wind at your back, a nice big floating popper is a great choice .
