my previous question referred to duolock clips and i should have been saying tactical anglers clips. in my usage with moving a 20lb leader loop on and off, should i worry about bruising the line?

Sorry I have 0 experience with the tacital angler clips.

I quit using them because I had a few lures come unhooked. The clip end is just a little too small and if a lure moves to the side and back, it can unclip itself. I only use them to make chatter baits that have thick hook eyes, plus they have a 90 degree turn that makes them ideal for chatter baits.

I am so glad you showed me those. I got my first lure in the mail about an hour ago. I understand the treble hook. But from what I learned from you guy's is leave the single hook on. To the right of the lure is one of those I think. Please tell me what's it for and do I need it?

Thanks so much!

it's much easier to unhook a fish from a single hook than a treble hook. It also does less damage to the fish,if you are releasing it. The snap is tied to your line, the smaller end, and you open the large end, hook the lure on and close the snap.

Z, no matter what hook you use especially the treble, keep long nose pliers in your tackle box. Those trebles can be a little difficult to get out sometimes and the singles sometimes need finesse to get them out.

I love the TA clips. Generally,I run braid to swivel to leader to clip.

I have used them for years. They tear up my thumbnails. I have wussy thumbnails. They work well for me but they are getting harder to see.

I like the ones in the photos greenfrog showed. Looks like they may be easier on my fingers and my wussy thumbnails.

Go get it, do it and enjoy it.

I use the speed clips and love them. They are tiny and light and don't bother the action of the lures. There is a trick to using them. People that try to squeeze them open to put them on a lure will hate them. The trick is to hold it and then press it down onto the eye of the lure. when it opens you slip it on. You take it off the same way. No squeezing or fighting with it. I use them when I am trying to find the right color and lure. These are quick change wonders.

I have never had one fail while fighting a fish. even when hung on something I have never had the snap fail when I'm trying to break off. I HAVE had the small snap swivels fail. Once I settle on a lure or if m not changing lures a lot I tie knots. Even when I am using the speed clips I retie them after every few fish. They are not replacement for good knots rather a fast change option when you are changing lures often.

About attaching clips/swivels etc to lures, I remember once reading the literature that came with a lure, not sure what lure, maybe Wigglewort, but it said to not do it because it inhibits some of the lures movement. It recommended the uni knot which is a tough slip knot that can be slid almost closed (not gripping lure) and after playing a fish, it can be loosened a little and get on with fishing. My .02

Tex, you are so right on the trick part of it. I played in the garage with it for awhile before going out on the water and you are correct in the procedure. A little cumbersome with big fingers but adapt and overcame. Did well on the water with it, I only had 1 catch with it on a popping cork but no hassles changing from top water lure to the cork.

Only concern is would a monster fish uncurl the ring portion and thus break off. However catching monster fish in these parts is rare.
