My friend to the north has a very nice catch. I’m going back tonight around midnight and sling a bait or two around Lilly pads and over grass. My night success has come from around 1:30 till around the 5am mark. Why,don’t know. Ivey, good luck tonight and be safe.

Good ones!

One of my most productive outings was night fishing for crappie with floating lights. Came home about 4 Am with over 140 for the freezer.

You lucky, the man didn't show up. Had a morning sort of like that once in a lime rock pit. We had to stir them up in the live well to keep 'em wet. Never counted them, we were lucky too. The limit then was 50 per

Nice job Ivy, I can't wait for our water to warm up. Went out today, 49-50 degrees water temp @mid day.

Wow. If I had that many crappies in my freezer here in Wisconsin, is be in jail.

Same here in Minnesota, we're only allowed 10 Crappie per person, giving them away to a neighbor does not help. If they have the fish in their freezer it's still your limit. As you must write your name and license number on the bag of fish.

It was 50 per for as long back as I can remember and then they started cutting back on us. The game warden here was my Granddaddy's good friend. When they met up in the woods or on the pond it was "one for you and one for me" It didn't whether hs had his limit or not. It was a good thing for both of them. Back in I think it was '48 I was at my aunt and uncle's farm when Granddaddy came up to their house with a 55 gal drum in the truck full to the top with fish that he and Grandmama had netted from a culvert, He and I took those fish around to all the neighbors and shared with them. I was in my teens before I was made aware of any such thing as a limit on fish and came. Same place just a different time.

Jigger pole fishing at night is a blast, even when a big ole gator puts your pole out of commission. He'll sure mess up a musky Jitterbug too

Jigger pole, now that's something I haven't heard in a while. When I was younger we'd take a long cain pole and Jigger pole fish that was a lot of fun. I'd lay mine across the gunnels and bump the center of the pole causing the end to twitch tapping the water just in front of the bait, a short piece of heavy mono maybe 2 ft to a top water bait. the big bass coming up on the Jigger pole was very exciting. I know exactly where i can find a really long cain maybe 20 ft. I'm gonna have to try that out again.

Yes. Years ago (1950's) our neighbor would head up to Lake Superior in the spring and bring back milk cans full of smelt. So many he couldn't possibly use them all. Gave them away and then buried the rest. Today you're hard pressed to get an ice cream bucket full. This is why we have limits, as we should.

Smelt had no limit, I went up for smelt fries that our boy scout troop would do. Many hours of cleaning, even with 20 guys working on it, doing 3 milk cans full. We would sell bags of fish after the fry, as part of the fund raising, DNR said as long as it was a non-profit group then we could. That will not be allowed these days.
I feel like fishing at night allows me to not display what I am catching. We can catch better fish, without everyone knowing how, unless they hire me for guide trips. Last summer my best Crappies top 15 inches, walleyes were 29 inches, bluegills at 10 inches. All were released after a quick measurement. I release all sunfish over 9 inches, Crappies over 12 inches, walleyes over 20 inches, this spring I am looking at going more for the under utilized species of fish. Many are good eating, Catfish, Bullhead even crayfish, sheephead and hammer handle size Northern Pike.
