I know this has been on here before, but I feel like it's time to share my granddad's recipe for carp. Now this is a Hoosier recipe and where we lived there was an abundance of hickory trees and the wood was readily available. If you can't get hickory you could probably use any other good hard wood, but it will certainly alter the flavor of the dish. So, here goes:

Gut your carp and nail its head to a hickory plank.
Stuff it full of onions and a few garlic cloves.
Salt and pepper well.
Hang the fish and the plank in the outhouse for about 10 days.
Bake the whole mess in a slow oven for 3 or 4 hours.
Throw away the carp and eat the plank.

Curious if you were feeding the raccoons, skunks, possums, don't think birds since they disappeared over night. Could be wrong definitely wouldn't be the first time & will not be the last. Around here with the coastal crows, herrings, egrets & especially the ospreys any fish left out is fair game. Especially the herrings they will go into the buckets & take out the fish...

Owls have to eat too. I caught one of them things one night, on a Musky jitter bug, fishing for bass. To make this story real short, if it ever happens again, I'll beat the dumb butt to death before I try to get the hooks out and the line unwrapped.

I've seen birds on fish on the real quick after they were put there

Because their waters are so polluted nothing else can sustain life in them.

I don't care if it is where they get Perrier water from. I don't chose to eat CARP.

I'm on your side 27. I have tried carp but I'd rather eat the tongue out of my tennis shoes. They do put up a mighty fine fight. When it comes to invasive species think about what that fish may be doing to the native fish. I have caught an occasional bowfin in texas & I've always fed the buzzards with them. Buzzards got to eat to.

Read about 5 years ago that the state of Florida imported them from South America and put them in canals. The reasoning was that they are a good fighting fish and are great tasting. I have caught a few that were very colorful and good eating. Don't kill them, eat them or put them back.

If invasive = non native then we need to differentiate good or bad. NOW who gets to differentiate ??

This is a Mayan cichlid. Fun to catch. Release so someone else can catch him too or leave him on the bank for the birds? Any opinions? I opted to put him back.

I posted this before, but I think on wrong post so here it is again.
About 5 years ago I did some research on this fish and found out that the state of Florida imported them from South America. The reason being that they fight like a bass and are good eating. Some of them are very colorful and are also called a Peacock Bass. I have caught a few and they taste good. Do not kill it, through it back or eat it.

Some species if invasive carp will knock you out if you don't wear a football uniform as you cruise lazily down the stream. Invasive doesn't belong! Fertilizer I say.

Carp is not bad just remember to get the mud vein out before you cook it and dont bust the air bladder

Found out an easy way to handle a bird of prey. Had a similar experience with an eagle...one pissed off eagle.
Put a cloth over it's head bird didn't give us any trouble. But as we pulled the cloth away from it head prior to it's release we hauled butt & fast....found a great horned owl here a few months ago all tangled in line wrapped around a tree branch strangled to death.
