“They will have to pry my cold dead hands”
Eric, I admire your courage!!!
9-6 Fenwick? You can't take the money with you, enjoy!
I would like to take a second to tell all of you older gentleman and ladies ( if they happen to read this) that you guys are truly an inspiration. Even with all the physical problems that come with age you guys still find a way to get out (no matter what it takes) and still continue to do the thing you love to do. It really does make me smile to read about how you would rather be fishing than sitting at home due to a physical issue. Thank you for paving the way for us younger anglers and giving us the inspiration to continue to follow our passions. I am truly a blessed man to be able to be in the presence ( even via online) of all of you. So thank you.
a decent spinning reel with 6-8lb. mono line. 7ft rod is plenty long enough. every bait has a preferred distance from rod tip to bait for optimum distance. experiment with each bait to find that starting length. medium rod with fast tip should work.

IDK what age is "older" for you but if I'm in that group I too feel blessed to associate with the "older than me " group. I am still able to hunt, fish and hike more than a lot of the guys on here and I am so thankful. I
truly am blessed and thank God every day He gives me here to enjoy His creation and to spread His word.
You will hear lots of advice in here, but I had a buddy that thought he could cast further if he had a longer pole , but with that longer pole he had more flex so it caused friction which did not give him any advantage. so guess you better get a pole that fits you and spinning reel that is best match, as I am 81 and have two heart attacks and artificial knees and get short of breath very easily, but like you I just hang in there and congrats to your understanding wife and helping you...

Thanks,
I think if I do it again, I will do it when other people are there.
Young Aaron: Thank You for your words. My Dad always said “Don’t ever quit what you love”. That goes for anything in life. Watch your diet. DO NOT EAT SALT!!! There is too much salt in our foods anyway. That’s my problem , I have hard time collecting water around my heart. I’m in the Final Stage of Heart Failure to old to get a transplant. I would refuse one anyway. Give it to a younger person. I don’t think Beer or chewing hurt you. Been chewing since I was 7. Get you a workout plan started if you don’t have one. Hustle some weights. Thanks again for what you said. When I catch a 10-20 lb Striper I’ll send a picture of it.
That’s what I thought and got it for 70 dollars
Mr Spirit. Do you live close to those Csly lakes that they are catching those 19!lb and 20lb hog Bass?
I'm sorry Davey. Csly lakes? Not sure what you're asking me about.
Spirit, the lakes in California that are producing those huge bass?
There are a couple of lakes down by Los Angeles that are notorious for big bass, Caustic is one of them, Pyramid the other. I'm about 500 miles from L. A. The closest big bass lake by me is Clear Lake the regularly have bass tournaments over there and it produces a lot of big bass and catfish also. Clear Lake is a good 50 miles from me. And I am not a bass fisherman, I mostly target trout and I like to fish the mountain streams in the Sierra Nevadas. This back of mine and my age (72) have slowed me down some in that regard, I just can't get to some of the spots I used to go to. But I'm learning to adapt and learning my limitations. That can be a steep learning curve and sometimes a painful one. But if you don't push, you'll never know.
Not caustic - Castaic. Damned spellchecker.
I'm 81 and have artificial knees and have had two heart attacks and have five stents in my heart, and I still go fishing all the time, days it is hard for me to do but I just keep going,I will probably die with a fly rod in my hands, but so be it.
