Be a very good idea no one wants to loose any digits or go to the ER.

I really don't like them in the ponds...I do remove them from the road ways.
They take my bait and even hit lures.
Ever try to get a lures' hook out of one? You are going to ruin the hook.
Yes, I take the hooks out and release the buggers too.
I catch and release everything.

I always cut my line when reeling a turtle in. Use to catch alot of them fishing with shrimp in the Ohio River. Always felt sorry for them with that hook in their mouth. Never did eat turtle but heard they were good eating. How in the world did you get the turtle out of the water & then take the hook out. I heard they wouldn't let go if they bit you?

Snapping turtles will take over a pond, and quicker than you think. If your pond is creek fed, or if the spillway feeds a small creek, there's really only one solution. You can't trap, and relocate them...they will find their way home even if taken miles away.

I won’t mess with them. A buddy of mine brought one to work in the back of his pickup. When he poked it with a broomstick it bit the thing into faster than I could get my hand out of the way. They’re ugly critters too. Look prehistoric to me.

How many turtles in a pond is too many ?

Two many can reduce the sustainable fish population in a lake or stream. In Ga the DNR will if requested provide a list of approved trappers in your area. Some of them will trap turtles for free and sell them to resturants & others to make a profit.
