The pond size is about 60 yards across x 50 yards and about 18 foot deep and these turtles are snappers.

And in lots of places they are protected, check your local laws before considering culling!

Truthfully I don’t think they hurt the fish population much. Around here we see the painter turtles by the hundreds on logs rocks and other things.

I know whenever I see one crossing the road I stop and move them along yes even the larger snappers. I always make sure to push them along the way they was already headed.

Last year I even found a yellow spotted turtle people was just straddling the poor thing in the road I guess everyone was just too busy to stop and move it.

If you keep fish for eating and turtles are present, don’t keep your fish on a stringer.

I would think it would depend on the size of the turtles. Are those regular ol snappin turtles or are they the Alligator kind? If you're pond is infested with Alligator snapping turtles how safe is it to fish? Those guys are nasty. (but I hear they make good soup)

Good way to keep in check is to harvest some every year and eat. Make great table fare. Snapping turtle has 7 different kinds of meat. A little tuff to clean but well worth the effort.

They do make good soup. Back in the 50's we got a dollar a pound live weight.

I feel the same way about turtles crossing the road. If no one is behind me, I'll stop & put the turtle across the road in the direction it's heading. So does my daughter.

I get in trouble all the time with the misses whenever I stop. I hate to see them squashed in the roadway.

like I tell the wife it’s not like they run out in front of the moving car.
