No telling what you might catch on a jig. They can be great baits.

How often has a bass hit lures like that? I’ve only caught one crappie which I happen to be using flukes for bass.

Idk how to use these baits or to catch crappie. But damn do I want to learn because I want to catch a stringer and provide some meat for my family finally! Don’t have electronics though :( not sure if that’s required for crappie

I don’t use electronics just go around casting and retrieve slowly. once you find one there’s usually a good size school of them I like chartreuse with a orange tail, but that’s here in the north East your area might be different. Just have patience and try different colors good luck.

Tube jigs are my favorite, go-to lures. I usually stock up on small, red tubes with a white skirt. Crappie at times prefer the light green color. I have found the skirts are often too long, so I cut them in half which prevents what is called a short-strike. I normally carry jig heads in a variety of weights. Over the years, I have caught many types of fish on them. They have a permanent place in my tackle box.

I know what your saying I also Keep a good stock of them and jig heads in my tackle box. Last spring I hooked into a 6 pound bass on my ultra lite pole and a small jig head and the fight was on lol.

Looks like to many to choose from i keep it simple and just carry the go to's for bass and crappie with plenty of slip bobbers and stops cause lots of trees and big fish ....... my favorite bass fishing is top water but i have now fell in love with wacky style caught more and bigger bass than ever before love it ... still nothing like the top of water exploding while trying not to jerk to soon lol good fishing everyone ......

OK! I give up! What is "wacky style" fishing? I have heard of guys wackin' the water with an oar to create a disturbance which they say attracts the big bass. Is that what you mean?

Wacky means how you rig the lure..usually putting the hook right in the middle of the bait..When it sinks it really has an unusual motion compared to Texas Rig...You can rig dang near any kind of soft plastic bait "wacky"....usually works better with less weight added ...You can put a "pony-tail" hair band around middle of the lure to help keep from losing so many baits...I use a small strip of duct-tape and run hook under it..
We usually leave the hook barb exposed ....but Im sure every fisherman here has their own take on "wacky"
that help?

You tube will give you low down i use a small circle and fish it with no weight and slow retrieve with maybe pic it up once let it fall then twitch twice or 3 times just what works and usually it all works i get a bite 80% of my cast and when they hit its usualy very easy so when you feel a tap or the line goes slack just keep line connected and give it a minute then reel till you feel them and set it deep have fun after that !!!!!! It puts lots of fish on the line ive never had anything more productive for bass and been bass fishing from 5 hrs old till present and im am almost 50 !!!!! Good luck

Yep, in 1959 I caught a 30lb carp at Horseshoe lake Illinois on a 1/8oz yellow bucktail and 4lb line.

One of the fishing accessories in the military survival kit is a plain leadhead jig, because they work so well.

Where do you live or fish? Electronics definitely helps. Not only do you know the depth you are fishing at, but also structure and actual fish. It's definitely a game changer for crappie.
