Question: I'm still using Sonar technology and want to upgrade. I don't want to spend the money at the moment for a fish finder that has both Down Imaging and Side imaging. If I buy one that only has one of the two features, does anybody have any advise on which type is the most advantageous for fishing in lakes anywhere from 30' to 80' deep. My targets are bass, crappie and walleye.
I've been looking at several Humminbird Helix's, but it's a little confusing to this old codger (technology wise) because I read information like "comes with DI and is SI compatible", or visa versa.
PS - If it helps, I'll be looking for a trolling motor mount transducer.
Thanks in advance........Richard
I guess I'm "old school". I use down imaging. I can't seem to make sense out of side imaging. I have both, but prefer the down imaging.
Me too.. Down.. Mine has Side Imaging but down is easier. I'll get there eventually.
I love my Garmin it has all the newest things like down imaging and temp and side imaging plus maps and GPS but the thing that gets used the most is still the old school temp and down imaging and the rest of the stuff just might as well not even be there.
Last season I installed a Lowrance HOOK2 with Down Imaging for my kayak. Itโs pretty easy to setup & operate. I too did not want to โbreak the bankโ so I found a sale & got a $100 rebate from Lowrance.
Good luck!
A Helix Side Imaging also includes Down Imaging. So, if it says SI, it's also DI. Not the other way around tho. Down imaging is probably all anyone really needs. It really depends on where you will be mounting the transducer. A lot of people don't like SI on the trolling motor because when you turn the motor, it blurs the image. If you keep it straight, tho, it does OK. I'm a crappie fisherman and I use primarily DI, but SI is nice if you can afford it.
i was told from cablas fish guy humming bird finds r hard to operate
Thanks to all you guys for your feed back. I settled on a Humminbird Helix 7 Mega DI GPS G3. I'm nearly done building a home made bow mount transducer bracket for my Bass Tracker TX 175. Will probably have it installed by days end. Then comes the learning curve.
