What kind of ferrule is it? If it's a metal ferrule, put it behind your knees, hold the two rod pieces firmly and spread your knees apart. If it's an overlapping ferrule (graphite to graphite) twist the pieces slightly as you pull. If it's a spigot ferrule try the same slight twist as in the overlapping ferrule or have someone hold one piece while you hold the other and pull in opposite directions. In the future, either very sparsely use candle wax or the nose grease others recommend. There are reasons for not using nose grease that I now forget. I carry a very small chunk of an old candle in my vest and use it lightly. Orvis (I think it's Orvis) sells a wax that is specifically made for this purpose.

Have you tried spraying cold water on them, whoops my mistake I thought I was on the pet forum. Lol sorry I couldn't help it ! Thought I'd add a little bad humor on the issue
I do and used to use it when there were metal connections
Be sure to twist while pulling
When you get it apart, put candle wax on each male part of the ferrule. Works great.
Place the two peices behind your legs. Just above the knees put your knees together reach behind left hand be side your left knee right hand behind your right knee. grasp rod with joint centered on back of knees now spread your knees apart pushing on your left and right wrists your rod should pop apart. Often to end stuck joint run male joint in your hair acts as lubiicant.
You can also roll the connecting pieces of the rod behind the ear to keep them from sticking and to pull them apart put the rod behind your butt and bend your knees and pull apart at the same time. This always worked for me.

Gee haven't got that rod apart yet? Wow,please let us know.
Make sure that the pointed end of the screw is not touching your nose when you start turning it as it hurts like hell and is hard to make it stop bleeding .
