If you’re in Yuma go to the canals off of Araby rd. Right by the church is or was a good spot when I used to fish there, also Mitre lake and all the little ponds off the river near the lettuce and broccoli fields! We used to ride bikes there so not too far if you don’t drive. Big Texas rugged lizards brown and blue or anything black but if you can find them, salt and pepper Reepers 6” on a split shot set up 18” above the bait reel in slow! I mean when you think you waited too long wait more! one crank wait 2 cranks wait!! And hold on son because 5, 6 pounders even bigger lurk in those canals and Mitre I have caught several 10+ pound bass! Right Now is the time. the rest of the country is in winter but Yuma Phoenix where I am now and San Diego are pre spawn and it’s coming fast!! Remember the lunkers bed first and they are hungry!! Good luck and sorry for being so long winded!! But now you talked me into going fishing lol

I lived in yuma for a time and got to know an old timer. He taught me how fish the canals. We used dough balls some mixed with bacon grease, garlic etc.We would cast out and then just let out line slowly. No weight, the cats would pick them up on the drift. We would let it go 100 yards or so then repeat.most of the time below a gate or by a canal split or bend. I caught some nice ones, one time a 29 incher

Sort of grew up in Palo Verde on the island. Try chunk makerel on a single hook.
