Here in our local ponds a guy told me to try frozen shrimp. I thought he was just a little off until I actually tried it and the bass loved them.

I have never tried frozen shrimp for bass. Would that also work in a lake or just for pond fishing?

Works in lakes also. My wife and I were out on our local lake a few years back and she latched onto a monster bass (using shrimp). Unfortunately my not so bright cousin was with us as well and he tried to bring it into the boat by pulling the line up and it broke the line as well as her heart.

The most important part of catching fish is to get a hook in the water ! The best all around bait for most freshwater fish is a live night crawler (catches a variety of fish) Rig with a weight on bottom & stag 6 in. off bottom & then about every 14 in. there after (here in east Texas I call this a Roy rig ) Place a weighted bobber about 12 in. above last hook . Use 2.0 gold hooks .

Frozen shrimp work about anywhere(fresh or salt water) ,but are easy for fish to steal

get some nightcrawlers , pinch one in half and put it on a 1/32 or 1/16 OZ jighead. It will cast good,, and the jig seems to help not gut hook them, thats what I do anyway ,if Im not using artificial

I appreciate the information here on this post. Fishing from the banks , I am after bluegills (sunnys) or whatever they may be called. Are the fish going to be near the bottom or top of the water?
Does it differ during summer or spring?
Why do I catch small ones mostly? (I return those)
I wish I could do better.

Sounds like typical small pond. Sometimes in small ponds fish size is stunted. Mostly with blue gill and other sunfish. May need some bass or other types of predator fish to keep numbers of sunfish in check. You may also try nightcrawlers or stink bait on the bottom. Small ponds are usually stocked with catfish. Early spring is a good time to start fishing ponds since water warms here early and actually anytime of year should be good, because ponds are usually quite small. Fish parallel to the shore in warmer weather and deeper when it gets hot or extreme cold. Hope this helps. Have fun and good luck!

Quarter stick of dynamite and a long handled net. Worked for my grandfather. Just scoop em up.
