After researching Walleye charters for a few weeks back in February, I finally chose Captain Drew Bercaw to take our group out for two outings, Friday morning and Saturday afternoon. We worked out of N.E. Port Marina, Port Clinton, Oh. and boated about 9.5 miles to just south of the Canadian border. We cast and drift fished with spinner rigs and nightcrawlers in about 25' of water. The bite was very good with catching many fish from 13"- 26 .5"
It was a little breezy and rough on Friday with 3-5' waves and a little rain but slightly smaller 2-3' on Saturday. It definitely gave our legs a workout.
We ended up with between 45 & 50 pounds of fillets which will be enjoyed by multiple families.
We are excited about scheduling with Capt. Drew again for next year if not sooner as we are possibly looking at a fall trip.
A good time had by all.

Glad it went so well! I was checking the Port Clinton weather on my phone all day Friday and Saturday. I amazed you guys went so far!! Plenty of fish way closer to where you started but Iβm sure he had his spot. Drifting and casting is my favorite way to catch them. Just not easily done around me.
Thanks for the post

Hey J, we had a great time as you can tell and yes it was a little bit of a rough ride out Friday morning and the captain was surprised it was as windy as it was and also that the direction wasn't from where they were predicting either, but he new where the fish were located and we were hooking up within 5 minutes. It started out hot on Saturday afternoon to but totally stopped for about an hour (2 drifting patterns) where we could see that they had dropped to the bottom but as soon as we saw them rising the bite was on again.
Captain Drew really did his job for us.
Thank you again for the info you sent my way.

Nice MAs!
Lake Erie is a phenomenal fishery⦠I was fortunate to live within a couple miles of it for 60 yrs! Fished it for 40 of those years!

I cruise through the pictures almost daily to see if I have missed anything. I have to keep stopping at the cooked fish photo. That fish looks so good.

Ya Rt, the charter we used offers morning and afternoon outings for up to 6 people and he also offers a clean mobile home that sleeps 6. It worked great for us and if you check out his Facebook page he posts pics of his daily outings so you can keep up on what is biting. He isn't the cheapest but I would definitely recommend using him because he makes the trip an experience for his customers. He is in his 11th season as a captain and he communicated with other captains during our outings to gleen the most information he could to keep us on fish. Definitely worth the cost.

Sounds great buddy I appreciate the information Iβll definitely be looking into that
Mas fish that is a great catch. It is also good that you found a guide that can put you on lots of fish. I have read and heard a lot about the recovery of Lake Erie. It went from being a hyper polluted dead lake in the 1960s to what you experienced in 2024. It is a great example of DOC and EPA efforts done the right way.
