My buddy and wife are out in San Diego visiting his daughter, husband and their 2 boys. I’m taking care of his critters for a while. Found this little ring necked snake in the basement along with a few others. To give you scale, he’s in the bottom of a tapered coffee cup. Cute little guy.

Brad I haven't seen one since I was a kid.
They are tiny little things. 👍😊

Pretty cool looking snake. We used to catch ribbon snakes when we were young. The pet stores would pay us 25 cents each. They would also pay 25 cents for baby greenback turtles. We have a big rat snake that lives in the spillway behind the house. He freaks my wife out when she sees him slithering around. If I’m out in the yard and I don’t want her directing my work, I tell her I just saw him. Back in the house she goes. 🤣

My buddy’s place is full of them, his little farm is at the base of the blue mountains and has all sorts of snakes, rattlers and copperheads as well. Don’t much care for them though.

Pretty snake I'm not sure but that could be a baby king snake, harmless, but he kills rattlesnakes and other venomous snakes. I remember my grandpa on my mother's side, I'd be out helping him in the garden and he would point out the bull snakes and king snakesnever to kill them has they're beneficial to man.

I don’t like spiders and snakes, and if that what it takes to love me… or something like that. Anyone remember that song?

And here I was expecting a pheasant pic. Not a snake fan and to me a good one is a dead one. But thanks for the pic Brad, more of nature all around us than we are aware of.

I have never heard of a ring-necked snake. Cool looking.

I've seen a couple around. They are a pretty little thing, and as snakes go they're pretty friendly.

They don't get very big. Largest one I heard of was less than a foot.

This particular species rarely if ever bites plumb, totally harmless unless you’re a redbacked salamander. The mainstay of their diet.

Harmless and will eat earthworms (if to big, cut in pieces).
