Is there a difference between brands as far as getting wind knots? I know most of the time it comes down to poor technique, but are some brands more likely to get a knot?

That is a big difference Saw, wonder why if they are all good. Someone is getting the short end of the stick

Well Ranger. I really believe a lot of it is personal preference. Or a status thing.
How many people buy HIGH DOLLAR rods and reels.
If you can afford it and that's what you wanna do with your money, then by all means do it.
But for a lot of us that just like to catch fish, it doesn't matter if you are usin a reel and line from TEMU on an Uglystik. It gets the job done and you put fish in the boat and you're havin fun.
If I spend 5 dollars on line, 10 dollars on a reel and 40 dollars on a rod, I've got 55 dollars wrapped up in my setup.
If you spend 40 + dollars on line, 250+ dollars on a reel and 250+ dollars on a rod, you've got 550 + dollars wrapped up in your setup.
SO, 50+ dollars versus 550+ dollars.
I have a few other things I might like to buy with that extra 500 dollars. Just Sayin.

Too rich for my blood, I wonder if a skunk hurts more with the $550.00 set up

Power Pro. I use 20 pound on my salt water rigs and caught a lot of stripers and drum on it. Has never let me down. But it’s just my opinion and preference.
power pro works for me on small mouth bass

I guess using that kind of logic... a Yugo will get you to the same place as a Maserati, a $2.00 six pack will do the same as a $14.00 one, and a push mower will do the same as a rider. each gets the job done... but the experience is different.
Just sayin (sorry RJ)

Good read on braided lines. One question; I see a couple of you spoke about using braided line with a mono leader. Why the switch to mono for the leader?

I guess you don't need me to tell you to use braid. I've always been happy with Power Pro. I have green on my Steelhead rod but yellow on all of my salmon trolling and bottomfishing rigs. Visibility is nice, but just casting from the beach probably not critical.

I use all Power Pro and high visibility, easlier to my line with my old eyes

The question about the mono or flouro leader with braid is that braid tends to wrap itself around the terminal tackle on lures. For punching grass and pads a lot of people tie braid directly to the jig head. Also, the mono leader provides a little more freedom of movement for the lure, making it more lifelike. And I don’t wanna start an argument here but I have used that Kast King braid and it is junk. But that is just one man’s opinion. However, you won’t see it on any of my rigs. Have at it, boys! lol

There a fella on u-tube that done a test on strength of different sizes, but can’t remember who it was.

Just type, a testing on fishing lines strength pound pull, it should be easy to find !!!
Good luck 🍀👍🏽

The guy on YouTube that did the testing is Tyler Berger @BassFishingHQ. He did 725 tests on line strength. On his (newer) secondary channel @tylerbergerfishing, he as a fluorocarbon test video.

I'm not a BIG fan of Kastking line but I've got alot of it and it does do the job just fine. I just don't care for the feel of the line as much as some others. But I've never noticed any BAD performance from the line though. It still casts pretty good and holds up just fine, and trolls great.
I use it strictly for Striper fishin and it gets the job done. I've used it for a couple of years and have caught hundreds of Stripers on it.

I do a lot of inland, fresh water fishing for Crappie, Gills, Perch. Is braided line over kill for this type of fishing? What about Lrg Mouth Bass fishing?

Back to an opinion question. I sometimes fish a small reservoir for largemouth. It’s a relatively clear water lake. I have a friend that insists on fishing with 17 pound nanofil braid. I use exclusively mono for clear water fishing, usually 10 pound or less. I easily out fish this friend 3 : 1 on any given day. Is it the braid? I think so, or it may be my uncanny ability to communicate with the fish (but I kinda doubt that). As stated earlier in this thread, you don’t need 20 pound line to catch a 4 pound fish. Watch the pros when they fish a drop shot or Ned rig. 6 pound test for this type of finesse fishing. Back to it being a personal preference thing. But the lower weight braid, 8 or 10 pound will definitely out cast the same weight mono or flouro. Do your own test and go from there.
