On my light tackle, I have the cheapest braid money can buy. At 6lb test, my old eyes have trouble seeing the line. This stuff is at a mono 2lb size. Yesterday I went to my pond to try out a new lure. The 'sqitters' ran me off, but not before catching a 2lb bass. It flipped over and the line was wrapped into one of the treble hooks. While trying to untangle something I can't see, the fish decided to wiggle, and now I have three fingers with holes in them.

But the fact of the matter is that the line held up a didn't break .πŸ€ πŸ‘

I didn't like loading my boat and driving home with a plug buried in my hand. That's why I always carry needlenose pliers now.

Oh man ! My computer just ate/lost the LONG response I had almost finished typing to you.
So I'll just give a short version.
I've used braid for almost 10 years.
I use to use the more expensive braid that cost around 40 dollars for 300 yards.
I then bought two 1097 yard spools of Kastking off Ebay for around 20 dollars apiece + shipping.
My latest is buying Dyneema Situation Extreme Braid from TEMU. It's 4 to 5 dollars for a 500 meter spool. AND everything is free shipping.
That's the line I was using when I hooked that HUGH Sturgeon on Friday, fought it for 20 min.
Look up my post, Napa 4 12 24, you'll like the story.
The knot I had tied the lure clip on was probly at least 3 weeks or more old. (I know, I should retie much more often)
ANYWAY. I catch just as many fish with the cheap stuff as the expensive stuff, and the quality of the line doesn't seem to be affected. BUT, that's just my opinion.

I feel your pain Saw, nothing I hate more than typing a long response and then just about done and hit the wrong key and its all gone

Interesting post Scraps. I Googled it; looks like something I will check on. In reference to the original post, I've tried several brands of braid. The ones with more fibers hold up better. I like Power Pro 20# yellow for visibility. One post on here a while back indicated fish see red and green. So don't know for sure if yellow if a problem for fish.

Like one suggestion listed, be careful casting into the wind with a light lure. Nasty mess for sure.

Just my own thoughts but I don't thing line color really scare's fish, lot of people worry about line color but the way I look at it line is the least of the problem. Look at all the stuff we tried onto that line and don't think anything about it.

If you are fine with 10# mono for all your fishing, stick with that. Braid is good to replace heavier lines. It can tangle easier; requires its own knots; requires leader and costs more. If you need 20-30# or more, follow the braid suggestions. You won’t see much cast difference from 10# mono, especially after adding the leader knot. And braid line handling is more work. Line stretch is a noticeable benefit when fishing 200-400” for halibut.

Lots of good info here. I personally use both Power Pro and Suffix 832. Both are good options. I also use Power Pro V2 which is an upgrade on the regular Power Pro. Might be worth checking it out...

Hi all,
Looking for opinions on braid fishing line. I fish from shore (saltwater), using a spinning reel casting for salmon. I currently use 10 lb mono and have pretty good success with it, but with all the hype about braided line was wondering if I should give it a try.. I know there are some advantages like no line stretch, longer casts, etc.
Is there a better brand of braid to try if I decide to go that route? Thanks for any advice.

I have tied a bunch and like Sufix 832 the best. You will likely have to order it.

Saw, I'm in agreement with you on the cheap stuff. I get 8 or more strands and it seems smoother and less likely to knot in the wind. I think line is improving all the time.

Not even in my fingers. I didn't need the pliers, just pulled them out. Only one was buried deep. Och! All my reels have braid, and none have spider wire. I like that if I fish the 'jetties' and the fish rub the line on the rocks, nothing happens.

I also been buying braided fishing line from Temu and it works awesome fraction of the price at bait stores or fishing shops.πŸ‘ I actually just received a 7000 series reel for 15 bucks with ball bearings. This thing is unbelievable and seems of good quality. If it last me a couple years I’m out $15 but assuming it will last longer than that seems to be well-made. It takes about 10 days or less on standard Shipping from Temu.

I have ordered 3, 4000 size reels. Two are the same and seem to be better quality than the other one. However, the lesser quality one is the one I hooked that giant Sturgeon on and it did a good job.
Just be SURE to rinse them well and lube them some after saltwater use. They will seize up fairly quickly.

If you’re using spinning tackle use FireLine. It feeds off the spool better. 6lb FireLine will we’ll outweigh 10lb mono (does that make sense?) and you can use 10lb mono or fluorocarbon leader if you wish.
I use Power Pro on all my
baitcasters and FireLine on all my spinning.
