Nice fish, I’m envious! Are the fish still about 10-15 ft down?

I tried a new lake (Bartlett) on Wed and got skunked. So went back to Saguro yesterday. 9 nice bass and whatever this is? I guess it's a striped bass but it was so fat it looked like a crappie.

The largest bass was 20.5 inches and weighed 8.1 pounds. Am I in heaven?

Nice catches, rgipple! That last picture is a yellow bass. Good fish taco meat, like stripers and white bass and their hybrid, "wipers". I fished AZ lakes, rivers and streams for 30 years and caught quite a few of those yellow bass in Saguaro Lake. Bartlett is hit and miss, but I have done well in the early mornings on Rico poppers. But there is a really good fishery just above Bartlett Lake - Horseshoe Lake, which feeds into Bartlett. If there is water in Horseshoe Lake, it is a good crappie and bass fishery! Check the water levels of it. We use to slay, just trolling some 3" Chartreuse Power Grubs in our kayaks :-)

Nice catches, rgipple! That last picture is a yell... (show quote)

Great advice. I will definitely try that. I saw that sign when I went to Barlett last week and wondered about it. Keep that advice coming!

I have to admit I am impressed. I have all but given up on saguaro and fish canyon when I can. I have spent 20 plus years fishing saguaro and probably haven't caught 50 bass none of which pushing 10lbs. It sounds to me like what you really landed was some damn good tips and location info. That's awesome! Congrats and once again nice fish!

Thanks, I consider myself a rookie but my work is seasonal and I've been going to the lake everyday for the last month. I figured I would try to learn as much as I can about this one lake. Fishing is poor between 9am and 4pm at Sag. It's particularly good at dusk. Today I went to the lake at 3pm. Caught two drinks on a craw jig until 5pm. But by 5pm it was bubbling. I fished with cranks until 7:30 came back in the dark. I didn't want to leave it was so good.
