Also beware when buying a used motor that you don’t settle for just a tank test. You can’t go “wide open throttle” on a tank test. It may idle just fine or possibly run fine at 2500rpm but Boggs at 6000rpm or even a bad vibration because something is tweaked. Been there, done that. Had to rebuild the motor myself. So keep that in mind, when the seller can’t (won’t) put it in a lake or river…🐟on

Right on Dave 👍

Here's a picture of the boat I bought. I screwed up when I bought the boat without checking out the motor. I took her word when she told me that the motor was good. Wrong took the boat to a boat shop to have it serviced before I tried to use it. Mechanic called and told me the motor was seized up. Not worth fixing as the labor costs would be more than the motor would be worth.
Sent the seller a message saying she owed me a refund of $500 since she lied about the motor. Doubt that will happen.

Might want to check with Thomer. He has 3 different motors. Bet he'll sell you one. Don't know the size of the one on your boat though.

If I recall, those were all small motors. Ed has a pretty good sized boat. I guess he could put all three on and have a 32hp…😂 🐟on

How long has the motor been setting. Take plugs out put some thin cutting oil in each cylinder and let it set for a few days. Then with the plugs out put the motor in gear an try to turn the prop. It may work loose 🤔

Seems to be sound advice. I've got many seized up engines running and lasted for years.

I agree! It's worth a quick try -- could save you a lot of money.

However, I would use brake fluid for the soak instead of cutting oil. If you can get it to free up enough to turn over by hand then you can squirt some light weight oil in before you try using the starter with the plug still out.

Don't try to start it without water to the cooling intake -- I've seen the water pump seals fried with only a very quick start.
