I too have collected a good many vintage reels, lures, etc over the years. Years ago I acquired a boat bookshelf at a garage sale. They made me a deal I couldn't refuse- Buy the 3 books I was looking at and they'd throw in the American flag sided bookshelf. I used to use it as a bookshelf in my bedroom, stocked with my bedtime reading material. After wife re designed bedroom decor the boat shelf went down into my office area not far from my lure collections. It didn't take long to put 2 + 2 together, Viola'.

Forward to last year. As a retired cabinet maker (past boat builder) I decided to take a pattern of the boat shelf and build a few out of my stock of materials. I used re-sawn weathered Cedar fence boards and some Walnut paneling for a trail. Results were very pleasing. My favorite is the weathered Cedar............

Iv'e sold a few by word of mouth. Haven't thought of advertising, don't want to jeopardize my retirement (Hah that's a joke. Been busier than when I was working for a living.)

So I am happy with my display, although it only handles a small portion of my collection...................

I like the real wooden boat. /can you provide a photo finished or when finished? I also like the bookshelf boat with lure and reel display. I have downloaded the photo of it and the fence board version.

Last comment, I still use quite a few of the lures you have hanging on the pegboard with good success.
Thanks again

I went back and looked at your peg board. I could make up my entire tackle box until I returned from Vietnam with the exception of hook holder and hooks, weights, bobbers and stringer (I had a separate fly box). I have caught pan fish, bass,SM and LM, pike, catfish, trout, musky, carp, salmon, steelhead, mackerel, varied sea perch, jack smelt, a shark, rockfish, ling cod and probably a few others. . I started with a lazy ike at about age 8 and added until I was age 19 when I owned nine different lures to the best of my memory. All nine are on your board. Thanks for the memories.

If that green with black stripe lure near the top of the board, just left of the two orange with black dot flat fish, is rubber, take this as a friendly warning. I had one for years. Last year it got stored next to a replacement rather stiff hula popper tail. The result was two soft globs of partly melted lures. Opps, my bad.

"Woody" was finished 2008 (less upholstery). 21'6" long. Cold molded (epoxied) marine plywood over marine ply ribs and white oak battens. Skinned with Mahogany. 10 oz. fiberglass laid below waterline (white stripe). 350 Chevy marine V8, forward/neutral/ reverse velvet drive transmission.
Been mainly used as party boat and never in the salt.

Nice. I went to the resident program of the "Northwest Wooden Boat School" back in the early 80's. so I can truly appreciate your craftsmanship. Well Done.

Thanks. Hoping to bring it up to the wooden boat center on Lake Union sometime for the festival.

Yeah, I too have learned the hard way about the caustic effect the rubber lures have on the surroundings.

Hi, I haven’t been on the Forum for a while but I collect vintage mostly saltwater spinning reels and have over 360 in my collection. I was looking for a way to display my reels and my daughter who is a great woodworker came up with an unusual way to do it. She found some wine glass racks like those you suspend wine glasses upside down over a bar. We are cutting them down, reinforcing them, and hanging the reels upside down by the reel foot and turned so the handle is out in the room. I’m planning to put about 40 on the wall in my study/library to display them. We found the racks and will start on this project this summer. I hope it works. I only have spinning reels so I know this will work for me but with other types of reels I’m not sure this would work. Anyway that’s our plan for a reel display.

It’s going to be a while. I had another idea though. I found some nice plastic clips at Amazon that could easily be mounted on a finished board to display reels. Also I searched on the Pinterest web site and found some very interesting ways to mount fishing reels for display. You might look at that when you get the chance. Good luck! — Chris

The 100 year definition relates to import duties enforced by US Customs. It doesn't relate to anything else.

As for a suggestion, if you have room, find or make a glass topped coffee table with a wood surface about 6" under the glass. Great for display and they'd be in plain sight in your best room. And you'd have a nice coffee table!

Lots of these for sale for viewing that you could use as a template to build one..
