That’s true. Driving across the country as a teenager with my parents in Yellowstone I noticed a hitch hiker that looked familiar. It was my friend from 2,000 miles away.

Of course. We gave him a ride and he hit my father up for 20 dollars which his father paid back when we got home. On that same trip we stopped for gas, got back in the car and I asked my dad 5 miles down the road—“where’s mom?” He took off without realizing she hadn’t got back in the car. I can still see her standing there when we returned pissed and the cowboys who worked at the gas station laughing their asses off.

Whitey, Saw, Plum Years later she would laugh about it. It took a while. As for the trip, after 2,000 miles on the road my father probably welcomed the silence……in front of the kids anyway…. I’m sure there was a lot of noice later. Lol
